Maelstrom

Maelstrom

Well Then..
I'm family sharing this game from a friend because he said it was like Command and Conquer 3 but with "cooler aliens." However, this game is more like Generals than anything. I really do like the game but there are some things that really irritate me a lot.

For example, the voices get so annoying and no I will not turn them off. Gaming experience is significantly reduced for this kind of game when unit voices are turned off. For me anyways. They are just too repetitive. Secondly, I like playing these games on Easy to take my time and explore what the game has to over, so I generally play a lot of Skirmish battles. However, I've noticed that on Easy the Ascension or Ascended do nothing on Easy. They don't train. They don't move. The other two teams are fine but they spam units like crazy. They'll send whole armies and destroy other AI in one attack. I don't like that. I like long, on-going battles. Not a battle to be won in 5 minutes. I'm a huge Command and Conquer fan which is why I gave this game a shot. However, this game isn't really doing it for me. I tried a 2v2. Myself and a Remnant ally against 2 Easy alien AIs. They both completely overran my ally in a matter of moments even though they had a completely huge army and then I had two very large armies attacking me at once. I held them off, but I don't get this. The whole map eventually turned into.. Water. What? Anyways. A third thing that completely turned me off my current session was the fact that once a water station was destroyed or captured, I couldn't do absolutely anything to it. I tried recapturing it but I gained no income. I couldn't even select it to re-upgrade it again. So here I was, a huge Remnant base with 3 tanks, 7 of those gunner trucks, some minigun men, and my hero. I had lots of energy and salvage (or something), but absolutely no water. Is there a way to use the water from the map as a resource rather than just the pumps? Do the pumps only last until destroyed and cannot be used anymore? I don't get any of this.

I really do like the concept of this game, especially the terraforming, but I'd much rather just go play Generals: Zero Hour as it is at least fully functioning. Unless, of course, I'm missing something. Or a bunch of things.

Can someone explain this to me? I tried so many different searches to answer my questions but Google wasn't complying. Just giving me the wikipedia and purchase locations as well as download areas.

There's a reason this game is only $5. While it has a lot of potential it, there are some major turn offs in this game. Anyways, to answer your questions, the Ascension AI is broken. Even on Medium difficulty, they just spawn the heroes, build manipulators and do nothing else. This isn't an issue on Hard difficulty, but I think that's because the AI spawns in resources. The other issue you seemed to have was with the water mechanic. The only way to get water is to capture the water stations. To capture a water station, you have to have units that can attack it, if its too deep in the water you have to have an upgrade, and you have to have units that can capture it. Infantry and Heroes can do this, and you do it by selecting them, and having them, "attack," the fountain. They won't actually attack it, but will try controlling it. You can tell this is happening because you'll see a yellow bar decreasing above the water station. When it's yours, then it will load control, up to 100, before you can upgrade it, improving the amount of water you can get from it. You can only attack a pump if an enemy has control, otherwise you just convert it. Pumps can be built and destroyed an infinite amount of times and there is an infinite amount of water stored in each one. Hope that helps!

I know about the water pumps, however it must have been the map because the water pump IN my base wasn't doing anything anymore, also the ones near my base. So, yeah. :/ I like the game, but there are a lot of major let downs.
