Guess I'll add my complaint
I just purchased Stacking as part of the Humble Bundle. The game installs without a hitch, but on attempting to run it, the screen goes black and nothing discernable happens. It vaguely freezes up; I've only seen the developer page once on starting the game. I tried the ole uninstall/reinstall bit, and that hasn't done any good. I'm not much of a technical girl, but "These days, though, you have to be pretty technical before you can even aspire to crudeness." ("Johnny Mnemonic", William Gibson)
Any ideas, commiserations, or what have you?

Nice quote.

Can you verify the integrity of the game cache through steam?

If that doesnt work you can navigate to the following folder (you will have to enable "Show hidden files and folders")

appdata\roaming\doublefine\stacking

and delete the file called "screen.dat"

Let me know how that works.

I've verified it a couple times, and it hasn't helped. I'll try what you recommend though.

Ok, the verification keeps mentioning that there's a file that failed to validate and will be acquired. it then downloads it, but there isn't any change.
I've found the folder you recommended, and Stacking isn't in there...

I am not sure what is going on. Stacking should not give you that error if everything has downloaded correctly. My inclination is that something is happening to the game during the download. How is your internet connection when you are downloading the game?

And if that folder is not there it basically means that the game does not even get far enough for it to create it (which is really soon after starting the app).

I know it is a pain, but can you delete all the files from stacking from your system? Once that is done, reboot and then go and download Stacking again, making sure that you have a steady internet connection during the download.

Could also be a video driver issue if you have not updated them lately

If you have NVidia integrated graphics, go to the Start menu and open NVIDIA Control Panel. Go to Manage 3D Settings, Program Settings, click the Add button. Locate the exe file (something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stacking). In the Select Preferred Graphics Processor For This Program, select "High performance NVIDIA processor". Apply these settings. Now the game should run using your proper graphics card.

This should solve similar graphical problems with other games too. I often have this problem with games, and this solution always seems to work. It solved my black screen for Stacking, so maybe it's the same as your problem?
