Dirt exacutable stops working or stops responding
Hi,
I Have:

Windows 7 64 bit OS
Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard
8150-FX CPU 8 core CPU
A set of XFX HD 6870 900m GPUs in cCrossfire
16 GB of memory @ 1366 MHz

The game starts, Runs movies, & menu animations fine. When I enter a race how ever the game stops working. A message comes up on the screen that states " Dirt Exacutable stopped working ". Anyone else have this problem?

My hard drive was taken from a computer that origanaly had 8 GB DDR2 800MHZ Memory, 1090t CPU, HD 5770 GPU, & Gygabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Motherboard. To my surprize the OS worked but needed to be re activated. I'm not to sure if I played the original Dirt on the new computer or if it worked at all on the new computer.

Dirt2, Dirt 3, & Dirt Showdown work great on the Sabertooth Motherboard. Just dirt 1 being a problem. As far as I know all other games work.

Thanks
Eric Kazer

I have the exact same problem. I am running Windows 7 on a MSI GT70 very capable of running this game. I tried it also on my desktop system which is also running Windows 7 and get the same thing. When I click to start a race it says the executable is not working.

Followup to my last post. I went to codemasters web site and on one support page it states that the game does not seem to run on i7 core systems. They say to try replacing the contents of c:\program\files\codemasters\Dirt\systems\workerMap8Core.xml with c:\program\files\codemasters\Dirt\systems\workerMap4Core.xml . Now I don't really know how to do that if someone could help or try it and give a mention here on what to do.

This fix should help. Find file hardware_settings_restrictions.xml from Dirt\System folder. Open the file with text editor and find word workerMap8Core.xml and replace 8 to 4 (result should be workerMap4Core.xml), then save the file.

Looks like they had the groundwork for these multi-core chips set up but didn't get the chance to finish before the game came out. It was common to have a dual core CPU back then, not even a quad core.

Weird crashes, no reason for them to appear so suddenly. It used to work fine on the same pc I have now, until a few days ago. I got to 95% of career without problem and now there are only 2 events left -.-

In the restrictions file I changed workerMap8Core.xml and replace 8 to 4. The game starts and runs on my Windows 7 x64 i7 system.

I have both workerMap4Core and workerMap8Core in the same directory, so how is this going to help?

I've tried it myself and it doesn't work for me. There's got to be another way!
