Kinda luck needed to complete?
I've beaten the heart 10+ times, and cleaned Sheol some times, but I can't do anything on Cathedral without having mega luck in the rewards I get on the way.. I can get to Cathedral with a file of hearts, another of souls, like another of souls which isn't visible on the screen, flying, and with some but not hyper-luck items, and I get decimated on the way to the boss, getting there with few lives and getting him on last phase until I die.. so the boss is WAY EASIER than the level itself imho..

It is me or this game is too much luck-needed once you bet the heart? If you play perfectly, but you get♥♥♥♥♥♥rewards from mostly all the levels (tho you got 99 coins, 50 bombs, 50 keys), except one or two, and kill the heart. What are you supposed to do, even if you're skilled and in the cathedral you're gonna find rooms that ARE going to damege you whatever you do?

Its mostly testing your steel, applying your knowledge of the bosses and enemies and multitasking, avoiding attacks of both bosses while trying to take down one. It's honestly not that hard when you get the hang of it, but of course, a large portion is definitely the luck of finding some great items. Then the chest will go even further, facing you off against 3 bosses at once in some rooms

Luck is certainly a factor at play. Of course, you can say that with many, many games. The luck factor is just more plain to see in "Isaac" than it is in, say, TF2.

Yes there is a degree of luck, but the more you know about the game the less appears to be luck. Nowadays it is rare that I don't reach the cathedral if not the chest when I play as Cain. I play somewhat risky but the game definitely rewards the risks. Take advantage of every opportunity the game gives you and it will get easier.

I said that I also get to the cathedral normaly, but from there I need a lot of luck to survive or save enough hearts to beat it.. that is the problem :S

I don't see the problem if you're able to get to the cathedral. That is an accomplishment right there. I have a problem with the boss not the cathedral itself. It's just the same bosses you've fought before. I'd suggest making more deals with the devil and trying to get rid of all your regular heart containers.

The game until it lives its extremely easy compared to the cathedral, that's the problem. Getting down there it's easy, cathedral is hard and if you don't have good items you're done for..
Cathedral and Chest are pretty damn difficult but it requires equal amounts of luck and skill. I've absolutely curbstomped the boss a few times thanks to brimstone/ Dr Fetus/ various other effects.

Would you rather the whole game be hard so it's even harder to prepare for the cathedral and the chest?

To be honest, yeah! The firsts 4 levels are daamn to easy, the only point there are the items. The others are medium, except few hard rooms you may find it the way to It Lives. On Cathedral, a lof of the rooms are way harder than any room before, by far. (Way harder than sheol).

That's how the game works. I think it's pretty balanced between luck and skill. For the cathedral you'll have to step your game up, build strategies. Using bombs to avoid rooms if you think you're going to take damage, map reveiling items and cards are a must, isaac's firerate depends on yours so slow high damage attacks will help you avoid damage and succeed.

Ok and I just got my game crashing here:
(Isaac is holding an item that changes non-stop, no key works, window (not answering).. ♥♥♥♥

For one time It was easy to get to Isaac, my game crashes 3 rooms away when getting that card.. great.

This sucks.

EDIT: Also I Had gotten the "The Necronomicon" achievement in that room, just before the crash, and I don't have it anymore..

Never heard that kind of crash before. The "items changing above isaac" thing also happens if you use cheat engine and check "add item when entering room" but don't have any items selected, though it lasts 1 second and doesn't crash the game. bummer :(

I don't use cheat engine lol, that'd ruin the fun of the game.. In my "bug" situation, the item changed continously, and the upper name of the card appeared and dissapeared non-stop, also the "luck up" letters at the bottom right.

I agree, it epic sucked.. then I started a game, and got Forgotten Horsemen as a first boss and some more epic bad luck disgraces on the 2 firsts floors and quit this game for today xD

Not really luck involved, although good items do help. Having a super fast attack speed can be really bad on Isaac/??? boss fights though.

Depends on which version of the game you're talking about. The original release had the balance of luck and skill at a perfect spot, as while you may not be able to get the best items, you could still work your way through the game if you put the effort in.

With the WotL DLC, everything just got thrown in the grinder as a result of unbalanced difficulty spikes, the random room function being shot to hell, and an almost literal truckload of bugs and glitches, some of which that can potentially end a run through ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t means. Luck is more of a factor in the expansion because it was just so half♥♥♥♥♥♥♥and rushed out that it just threw everything into disorder.

Hopefully the remake gets it right once more, but I'm not holding my breath.
