I am really bad at this game.
Well, this sucks... Since I've beaten 'mom's foot' I can't even go past 3rd-4th room. Oh, not to mention I bought DLC way before I knew it's gonna make a game ALOT harder to beat. Am I the only one who just really can't even GET CLOSE to the friggin' mom?

Honestly, I'm like 20 hours in, got *♥♥♥♥load* of deaths (if I didn't delete save it would be in the likes of 250-something // now I'm ONLY at 30). ;_;

The worst of it all is that I hate & love this game nonetheless. Sometimes I rage out so much but still WANT to play it AND BEAT THE MOM AT LEAST ONCE... *sigh* However, I'm afraid not in this lifetime. I don't have luck in BoI. And this makes me feel like a total failure.

It takes time and a ---- lot of practice. Plus, as you progress unlocking more content/items, the game will become easier.
Also don't forget that some luck in finding is required to reach later bosses.

Yeah I guess. But it's the luck I don't have. Most of times I have this naggin' that game is trolling me! When I have good trinkets/items/cards I lack hearts. Then again when I have good health/soul hearts I don't even have average dmg or speed.

But 'am still trying. Maybe when I get to 500+ deaths game will feel sorry for me and will let me have at least 1 ending. Btw there should be additional steam achivement for dying so many times yet still playing. ;]

Don't worry, I'm in the same spot. Got WotL when I bought the game, so I am having a heck of a time beating mom.

Well then, topic-poster, you are not alone! I boiught this game and the DLC at the same time, not knowing waht i was in store for. i havent't gotten to Mom yet and i have a nice total of 60+ hours playtime.

Not only that, but i am ,quite literally (unless i want to die on the second floor),FORCED to play as Isaac. The only other character i have at my disposal is Eve. Sure, the dead bird is great against bosses, but she has 2 hearts instead of Isaac's 3, she has 1 atack and range. the only real benefit is her speed, which is at 3.

*sigh* people on youtube who play it make it look so easy.

The easiest character to play as until you get good is cain, because he has the luck foot, which makes you only get good pills and more likely to win the slot machines. Also, he has slightly more damage than isaac, which is nice.

Ok, two questions: does WotL actually make it much harder? Because I bought them at the same time (if so is there any way to deactivate the DLC?).

Also, how do you unlock the other characters?

WotL makes it harder, no question. But the base game is still quite hard, and WotL adds some powerups that can sometimes help you out a lot.

There's a discussion topic here about the Binding Of Issac Lancher, which lets you disable WotL at your leisure. The characters all have different unlock requirements (many require killing Mom at least once), which you can find on the Wiki. Or just keep on playing, you might unlock some by accident.

You aren't the only one making the mistake of downloading WotL before beating the game at least once, but keep trying! Trust me, the more you do your best, the more satisfaction you will have when beating the final boss.

@thermitekitten
You're right about unlocking characters by accident, I was playing normally with no intentions to unlock any character, and when i defeated mom, bam! Samson unlocked. That's one of the things I like of this game, you can do many things without realizing.

not really, WotL adds new enemies, but most of the stuff they added was helpful. I bougth the game, and was waiting to get WotL on sale, and the first 24 hours i played it was vanilla gameplay. after I got WotL, it got much easier. Once I got used to the new enemies, I quickly found some new items and weps that helped on my quest, and beat mom first time, and second time the night I got WotL.

even though WotL adds more tough enemies, the new items are REALLY good. Also, the easiest character to play with is Magdelene since the extra hearts give a lot more room for error. At least for me, it seems a lot easier to get items that add damage and range than getting more heart containers or soul hearts. She even comes with a free heart every 5 rooms

Ah so many answers! I'm glad that I'm not the only one having hard time playing BoI with WotL. I guess there IS a way to beat the game. Since I started playing I know which enemies are easier and which ones are tougher (like these masks with hearts! not to mention like a whole room of them!). Anyway for now I have unlocked only Eve and Magdalene. Funny thing is I find it more difficult to play with Magdalene than with Eve. Oh well, I'll keep on trying! Maybe one day then, one day... xD

If you can get through Necropolis, Catacombs... Honestly since I beated mom 1st time (and unlocked additional chapter = rooms) I can't seem to finish them without dying somwhere there, lol... Not to mention the monsters there! I friggin' hate these masks with hearts! They always get to me ;_; and 'the horsemen' or whatever they're called.
