Use the arrow keys to attack.

Took me 114 deaths to my first Mum kill. Remember when you are on the Mum fight to use bombs. Drop bombs near the door ways where her eyes and fat hang out, put it there just as they appear to make sure it gets hit by the blast. Also, move alot. Don't stay in the same place for too long as you will get yourself caught out.

The game is just all about practise. The more time you put in, the better you will become at it. I remember reading somewhere that the average time played for someone to get a Mum kill was 14 hours. Thats about what it was for me yeah.

See I have beaten mom with Isacc but does the counter for beating the boss in the womb 2 because I have killed the first mom a few times

Yeah the counter only works for Mum's Heart, not Mum's foot. Totally forgot about that >.<. Took me about the 114 deaths just to get her foot lol. But I done it the wrong way too. I purchased vanilla BoI and played for about an hour or two, then it went on sale the next day and I purchased Wrath of the Lambs DLC which made it so much harder for me. But I enjoyed it all the same.

I'm still yet to get a mom kill, just keep playing and you'll get better and unlock more items.
A little tip I use on bosses is putting down a bomb and pushing it towards them with tears.
Good luck :)

Just take your time and don't be so risky, always play on the defensive.

Try to predict the movements and attacks of the enemies, most of them usually have a pattern.

Always check the amount of hearts you have before trading with Satan. If you have too few, the game will become much harder because of the lack of health.

If you have extra bombs to spare, you can always use them to see if there are some secret rooms around, use one in the middle of each sides of the room (look at the map and notice where it shouldn't be a room, because maybe there is one...). If you need to use bombs against enemies, try to hit them and also the walls, one per each wall.

Keep these pages open while playing, to know which items are best for you:

EDIT: Whoops, you meant the Mom's heart. My bad!
clairvoyantPastry 25 dec, 2012 @ 2:34pm
There are two crucial things that have helped me defeat Mom's heart on more than one occassion. One of those things is health, and the other thing is a buttload of bombs.

The health is obvious, so I won't spend much time explaining that. Find some health-up items such as the food ones you get after defeating certain bosses, a certain pill that increases your health, a literal heart you can get in item rooms or by defeating Gluttony (lard is good too, but I forgot if he drops that or not. Definitely comes in item rooms, though), and even a blood bag from the blood bank if you're lucky. Really, all stats are needed, but I feel that health is the most important and the one you should keep your eye the most on.

But the most important thing in the mom fight... I had to learn this the hard way, but it works wonders, I promise.
Bombs, bombs, bombs. Spam mom's heart UP with bombs. Every time she brings the heart down, place a bomb right in front of it, and when she spawns enemies, the bomb will (usually) blow them up instantly and deal significant damage to her. When she starts dishing out the blood bombs (or whatever they are), that's when you just stand at a safe distance and cry your character's eyes out.

After spending so much time in this game, I learned some ways to get a significant amount of bombs. They become really important for the womb-- to save health, bomb some doors open to escape rooms that aren't easy so you can get to the boss faster. Don't EVER worry about exploring the womb when you are trying to beat the game, because there is no item room or shop... And the secret room is usually useless because more often than not, there is just money. Since there is no shop, you shouldn't risk your health or bombs to find the room on the chance that there COULD be an item.
The arcade pretty much becomes your best friend here, especially when you have a bit of luck and a decent amount of money. You can use the slot machine to get hearts, and you can use the blood bank (or whatever it's called) to get some extra money without really wasting your health. The slot machine can be pretty good for getting bombs, or pills that could be useful such as the "bombs are key" pill. If you have the skeleton key and you use that pill, man, you are SET. While keys are really important, I will not stress enough to you how awesome bombs are in the womb.
But more than anything it's luck. You could get some great items to increase your stats and even get you some bombs as well as other items that could deal some damage to her (the list is endless, bombs are just the easiest imo. How many times will I say the word "bombs" in this post)

Well! I hope I helped you. Having beat this game like 7 times I surely hope I learned something by now.

I've learned a lot and I play it for a while every day and I have also realized that a good portion of this game relies on getting lucky with the items that U get in treasure rooms and boss rooms. U guys have helped a lot. Thanks

Also a question, is investing a good portion of your money in shops or beggars reccomended. This question more or so pertains to the beggars.
clairvoyantPastry 25 dec, 2012 @ 7:56pm
When I have a lot of money, I tend to give a bunch to the beggars. You can get smaller items such as keys and bombs way cheaper from them than in the shop, and they always drop some sort of item before they disappear. How much money you get them depends, though. You could give them two pennies and then they'd give you a useful item, but you could also give them 20 and they're still giving you keys, bombs, and hearts. Usually it's pretty worth it, though. I tend to risk it with the beggars because I always get good items from them, like HP upgrades and some useful spacebar items.
