A couple of questions.
Hi there. I have a couple of questions for you all.

1. Do you listen to the in-game music while you play, or do you like to have the music and sounds off while you listen to your own choice of music ?

2. I have seen a couple of people on this forum mention, when asked for tips, that it's good to know when to use keys on shops and when to use them on chests or item rooms. How do you know ?

Thanks, and have a nice day. :)

I like the music, so I always listen to it. A good tip for keys is to always try and keep one in reserve (until the 6th floor), and only open shops if you have 15 cents.

Also, I love the username/photo. Dark Tower FTW.

Thanks for noticing :) I'm re-reading them now.
I listen to podcasts mainly while playing anything, I don't think I've listened to a games actual soundtrack since Tony Hawk's American Wasteland for xbox came out
I normally keep Isaac on low volume to listen to podcasts and Skype with people. It's a fantastic soundtrack, but once you've heard it for 100+ hours you tend to want to listen to something else.

The thing you'll need keys for the most is the gold item rooms. You can get some great items in there, but with most of the characters starting out almost anything is usable. Shops are also really good, but only spend a key in them if you have a lot of keys or money. Sometimes just the enemy Greed is in there. Items in the shop also normally cost 15 cents. Sometimes an item is discounted to just 7 cents, but it's rare enough that you shouldn't depend on it happening. I only open Gold Chests if I have keys to spare or if I'm out of The Depths. They can have a lot of drops or even an item in them, but they can also just have a heart or tarot card so there's no garuntee you'll get your key back.
I've been playing with my own music on more and more lately. Partly, it's me being tired of the soundtrack (which is of course amazing), but I also find that I play better with outside music. Ingame music stresses me out more often than not, while my music gets me pumped up, and generally puts me in more of a "zen" mode, where I'm not thinking about the game as much, and thus do better.

Keys... I struggled so much with these when I was new. Now, my main 100% priority is always the treasure room. Always have a key for that. Then shops if I am over 15 coins, or over 7 if I have plenty of keys to burn. I'll only open gold chests if I have 2 or more keys, or am in womb. Pretty much what everyone else said.
music off for me, the soundtrack is good but anything gets old after a while, music in games annoys me in general though, often the tension music seems forced and out of place and it only serves to separate me from another layer of auditory feedback from the game.

1. I like the music to this game, so I usually keep it going. Well, actually I don't really pay attention, I'm usually listening to an audiobook or something.

2. It really depends on priorities when it comes to key use. If I really need health or I have more than 15 cents I'll visit the shop. If not then the treasure room, and then chests.
