Help me get data on the CreateDevice error?

If you are getting this error upon starting the game, I've just uploaded a build that may help me to track it down.

If you don't mind, try following these instructions and let me know if it gives us a more complete picture of what's happening:

In steam, right click on Monaco and go to Properties.
Go the the Betas tab, and change to Beta.
Run the game (it should install an update)

It will probably still crash, but the game will generate a file called RFE.log in the same folder as the Monaco exe (c:/program files/steam/steamapps/common/Monaco, probably).

If you can send that file to [e-mail] it will help me to track down the problem! Thanks!

In addition to the RFE.log file, it would also help if you sent along your dxdiag. Start Menu->Run... type dxdiag.

As an update, we're looking into why some machines are having trouble creating the display device. For the most part, most machines that are seeing this error are old, usually laptops with integrated gfx, intel laptops and the like. Some of these machines may be below spec for the game, but even so, they shouldn't be failing at this point, they should be failing farther down the road. There is no good reason for them to fail at this point. Once we fix this error, some of these machines still won't run the game, but hopefully some will.

Bumping this thread because I just put a new build up on the Beta branch. If anyone wouldn't mind trying it and sending me the results, that would be great! (make sure you switch your build to Beta, under Moanco properties, beta tab)

Sent the files. Forgot the DxDiag so sent it seperate. I will try this out on my machines at home. Nvidia GTX 460 and 260m.

Edit: Just found the specs for my onboard video(my machine at work/dell optiplex 755 usff, no PCI-E Slot) I doesn't meet the requirements to run the game.

From what I can tell this error only occurs if you have your monitor(s) in portait mode. I was able to play the game in windowed mode in portait but now it won't let me anymore. It probably reverted back to full screen.

Portait mode is where the typical 16:9 monitor is sideways so it is really tall and skinny wide. You have to look in your display drivers how to switch it. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card you can open the NVIDIA Control Panel and check under "rotate display".
