What happens when I steal things that are "NY" (not mine)?

Will I be sued for this at some point, does it decrease my status or something like that? I wonder how much the decisions I make in the game have an impact on the later story. Does stealing mark me as a thief?

I remember in Baldur's Gate you had to pick whether you're chaotic good, neutral good, and so on, and during the game your reputation could change.

Nothing unless someone sees you stealing. Sometimes you can close a door to be sure you are not detected. If you do get caught, it lowers your rep with the faction or area you are stealing from. Perhaps they can go hostile or just refuse to deal with you if your rep sinks low enough--I don't know because I always quicksave before attempting to steal anything and reload if I get caught...but there are some sort of consequences possible if you get caught often enough. And I agree with you on the game--I have become totally hooked on SW games lately!

I have gotten into the habit of quicksaving before attempting to steal, before conversations, and after battles...anytime you think you may need a do-over...heh...Glad you are enjoying the game! I have been on a SW Software binge lately myself...
