Steam's reply to my refund request.
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

We apologize for the delay.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund for this transaction.

As with most software products, we do not offer refunds or exchanges for purchases made on our website or through the Steam Client. This includes, but is not limited to, games, Early Access Games, software, gifted or traded purchases, downloadable content, subscriptions, and in-game items/currency.

We will make an exception and refund titles that are still listed as available for Pre-Purchase on our website. The refund request must be received prior to the official release date for the item. You can see when a pre-purchased title is scheduled to officially unlock by viewing the green information bar on its store page.

This only applies to preorders purchased from your account; preordered titles received or sent through the Steam Trading system cannot be refunded. We do not offer refunds for Early Access Games.

Please review Section 3 of the Steam Subscriber Agreement for more information.

Hehe, fair enough.

Were they promising refunds? If you purchased the game during pre-order and asked for he refund duriing pre-order you should get it. What led you to believe you qualified for a refund?
When you requested the refund, did you quote the clause that led you to believe you were eligible for refund? I can't see your request.
PS - The looks like your average free to play MMPORPG with "pay for extras' content. It didn't look like a $20 game. I wonder why you didn't like it. I've been longing for the day a LOTR game with Skyrim type game play comes out.

It's a MOBA that only requires an initial payment to play, everything else can be bought with in-game credits earned from playing. Nothing about this game is MMO.

Welcome to the dark side of Steam.

If you got refunds before, perhaps that's the reason why they denied it this time?? Hate to be that guy but, this is what you get for preordering games and/or purchasing them at full price.

@OP
Was this your first attempt at a refund?? What kind of letter did you sent them? You can always close the ticket and try again, and again. No guarantees though.

Last resort would be to dispute the charge, mind that such will bring consequences.

As a huge LOTR fan, I wanted to buy this also. I did some research on the console versions though and found out they never developed a large community. The game died on consoles fast and the thought is that it's the pricing. Just look at the store page, $80 for the whole package with a $20 entry fee basically. I knew then that this game would bomb on PC. If it were F2P it might have some legs but with expensive addons I doubt it. Warner Bros. damned this game with the pricing structure.

I guess my point is that sometimes you just have to own up to making a mistake with a purchase and remember that lesson the next time. I've made a bad purchase here and there which eventually taught me to research before buying. Luckily there was a ton of info on this game thanks to it being out on consoles first. Really, I don't know what WB were thinking with this port. Even if the game didn't have it's problems they should have known it couldn't complete with Dota 2 and LoL, or Smite with this pricing structure.

Moba is a tough genre to crack and just a LOTR license isn't enough.

Not true. This game was #2 on the xbox live activity list for arcade games for a week just below mine craft which is huge on xbox. They were holding a goldmine and threw it away.
Check arcade games

and 6th while later

Eh, that's on XBL probably just after release. After a couple months, I read it died which is pathetic. Unless the game is enjoying COD or Halo longevity at that position still, then the LOTR license wasn't enough. They need to make a quality experience with a competitive price scheme to go with the license and then it will take off like crazy.

It died because of the lag and disconnets not because LOTR license is not enough. The first list is on the same week of the release but the second is a month later. GOME was a new thing for consoles and they were signs that people gonna like it. I have 70 friends on xbox and 14 of them got the game. That's maybe the most common game among my friends. I talked with almost every single one of them and they were quiting the game day by day because it was unplayable all quoting "It's good but i can't play it". I even prevented 4-5 who wanted to know how good it is but i told them to wait for the patch. The patch arrived a few months later by the way but it was a failure
Zerschmetterlink Sep 3, 2013 @ 5:49am
Hey soothslayer,

close your ticket and start a new one in which you tell them all the facts the game was promising and could not hold. For example:

"Enter the fray in epic 5 versus 5 engagements with live players or AI combatants."

You can't even play an "epic 5 versus 5 engagement", because either you get a disconnect or the game is that laggy, that the only epic thing about it is to be part of an online-flip-book. You spend money for a product which is not existing. You got cheated. Like buying a cake tin on Ebay and getting a brick. Tell them that you think about getting an advocate involved. That's what I would do.

best regards
Zerschmetterlink

Let me know if Zerschmetterlink idea works.
Planetdune Sep 3, 2013 @ 7:51am
It won't... and thinking of getting an advocate involved ??? LMAO... like really ??? The mere fact you think that saying stuff like that makes ANY difference is laughable. The costs you will face paying for your so called "advocate" outnumber the costs you paid for the game a tenfold. Not mentioning Steam would very likely win any case you throw at them as they have all the liscense agreements and TOA's you virtually signed by using steam...

In the end you are either:

A: Threatening with false claims. Aka: you are never intending to really hire an advocate.
B: You are for real, you will loose anything you try and in the process pay at least 10x as much as the price of your game. (And 10x is on the lower end of the scale..)

See, in both cases, steam doesn't care. They got your money.
