Here is what to do if the game doesn't launch with the last update
Hi everyone,

Thanks to your feedback, I just figured out that some of you got some troubles just launching the game.

Sorry for that.

A common reason for this will be that the new Steam installer system that we are using is not installing the prerequisites stuff anymore.

I'm investigating, but in the meantime you can try to install this prerequisites manually.

----
A/ Try the windowed mode:

1/ Go to the config game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\blocks that matter\config by default on Win7)

2/ Edit the DisplayOptions.xml file with your favorite test editor (notepad for example)

3/ Change the "<fullscreen value="1"/>" part into "<fullscreen value="0"/>" (the 1 turned into a 0)

4/ Save the file

5/ Try to relaunch the game

B/ Install prerequisites manually:

1/ Go to the Prerequisites game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\blocks that matter\Prerequisites by default on Win7)

2/ Install vcredist_x86.exe (the most important thing to install). You can also install oalinst.exe (even if in many case you already have that installed)

3/ Try to relaunch the game

If it's not working yet, please try to run the game in Console Mode, so you can give us info that will help you figure out what's going on.

C/ Run the game in Console Mode:

1/ Go in the game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\blocks that matter\ by default on Win7)

2/ Double click the "BTM_DBG_launcher_win_bis.bat" file.
This will launch the game AND a console window

3/ Copy/Paste the content of the Console window or screenshot it here (or send it to me at guillaume[at]swingswingsubmarine[d]com so I can help you.

You mean that the game is showing you that kind of screen?

If so, try to restart your Steam Client, sometimes for some reason the Steam Client is not well initiated, as a consequence the Cloud will not work. We preferred to put this message instead of not saving/retreiving your progress in the cloud.

If it still bugging you, I'll remove that, and put a Warning instead "Steam features unavailable".

Just tell me if the "error about the Game API" you're referring to is this screenshot above.

Hi!

I have played the demo version without problems, but since I bought the full version, the game doesn't work! ¬¬

When I try to start the game, the screen blinks and changes the resolution many many times. After a few times doing this (and bugging many things in desktop) an error msg is displayed saying that the requested windowed resolution couldn't be achieved, suggesting to configure a new one direct in config file or check my graphics driver in OpenGL mode.

I try to set all possible resolution, try to reinstall the prerequisites and check everything I could, but nothing works.

Thanks for all the info provided.
From the log it looks like an issue with your graphics drivers.

Does the demo was running on the exact same computer?

If so, what is the configuration of this PC? (hardware: gpu cpu ram screen resolution, OS)

Is the demo is still launching right now? (if you still got it in your steam folder, it should be in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\blocks that matter demo")


A thing you can try, is to force the game to run in windowed mod. To do that:
- go in the game config folder (something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\blocks that matter\config" if you are running Windows7)
- edit the "DisplayOptions.xml" in that config folder (with notepad or any text editor) by turning the "<fullscreen value="1"/>" line into "<fullscreen value="0"/>
- save the file and restart the game


My guess is that your graphic device got an outdated drivers (but it's weird since the demo worked).
So my other guess will be that your computer use 2 graphics cards: a simple integrated chipset (to save some battery) and a more advanced graphics card. And the issue occurs because the graphics card used is the "simple integrated chipset".
So it will be great if you can give me some info about your graphical hardware.

Sorry about the delay, I had health problems.

Answering your questions:
1 - Yes, the demo still runs in my notebook but I have to use another account to play the demo version and unfortunately, I don't know why, no logs are created, the console remains black without any text and the game starts normally.

2 - My configs is about a Dell Inspiron 1545, which have a Intel C2D P7550 with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, running with an integrated graphics Intel mobile series 4 express, precisely an GMA 4500MHD, under Windows 8 Pro x64.

3 - I tried play in windowed mode, but I have the same error.

4 - My notebook don't have two graphic cards, it has only the integrated. I'm trying to understand why the demo version runs normally but the full version don't.

What happen during time between the 2 version is that the full version now use the new SteamPipe (Steam 3), so the steam dlls have beend updated.

Thanks very much for your time and patience. I'm currently getting a Windows 8 version to be able to test ! (because we are not using windows 8 to develop).

I try to lauch the demo version a fer hours ago and doesn't work, now it has the same error msg of the full version on Windows 8 Pro x64. It works perfectly in Windows 7 platform.

I have just tried to install this game and have been having issues.
Steam doesn't seem happy installing and tells me that oalinst.exe cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows.
(I am running Windows 7 64-bit)

Hi everyone!

I got a problem, when i launch the game the game doesn't start and close with this error:

hi!
my problem is everytime i try to open the gme i get pop-up, stating:

MSVCR100.dll is missing frommy computer. try reinstalling the program.

I have no idea what that is, and I've reinstalled it millions of times.
If you know what the dillio is, please help.

also, its been like this for while, but i'm not positive how long. (more than likely over 5 months)
