Screw lava and everything it stands for
GOD DAMN IT I HATE LAVA. On levels with lots of layers (TNT4U) its incredibly annoying to die just becouse a random drop of lava hit you and you die instantly having to replay the entire level again. The level after TNT4U witch name I forgot has ice blocks. I hope no one saw my face when I pushed the ice block to the switch only for it to vaporize in a random drop of GOD DAMN LAVAAAA....I know I can just get blocks to block (lulz) the lava, but on levels where every single block is priceless lava is just plain agrivating. Atleast with slimes you get 2 hits before you die. Dont get me wrong, this game is awesome, but the lava can umm.....freeze in hell?

right there with ya buddy, this game badly needs quicksave or checkpoints :(

Drops of lava are not random.

In many places, you can protect yourself from lava by placing stone or metal blocks in the lava path, getting through and then dismantling the blocks from the other side. TNT4U and other levels with lava could be made easier.

1000% agree on quicksave, trying to get through HELLGATE is just crazy and it is because you need to get the timing right many times in a row.

You don't even need to dismantle it from the other side. You can break them from underneath and just run out of the way after the second hit. The drop of lava, even if it spawns or reaches the block the moment you break it, still has to fall a whole unit of space. It's plenty of time to get out of the way.

Even better, the drop is actually much smaller than a unit of space, so you can headbutt one of the corners and not even need to move at all.

In most cases there's not really any compelling reason to block it anyway. Just watch the rhythm for an opening and go, same as every other platformer. IIRC Hellgate has an unusually tricky pair of them, and Extreme Temperature is Extreme Temperature, but that's about it.

EDIT: Just loaded it up and played through TNT4U again. I'm guessing the main contention is the dynamite sequence at the very end? You don't even have to run into the room except to slip into the exit after everything's blown up. Just make sure you have wood left over (I had about 7 because I didn't burn the stuff at the top) and put some on the left and right of the bottom wood block. It chains across the whole thing. Unless you're going for a gold star I'm not even certain you need to do the rigamarole at the bottom at all.

no,in THN4U im talking about the sequence before the dynamite. Where theres a lava drop that constantly falls and you have to go up and down to get some blocks to build a staircase

I guess that one can be a little tricky since you have to jump through over the block instead of just running, and that narrows the window a bit. If you're having that much trouble, you can stand safely on either edge of the block and just run across after the drop falls. Unless you're going for a gold star you don't have to open up the channel going all the way down to detonate the TNT box down there (and I'm not certain doing so would help with the star anyway, since you have to spend a ton of blocks to clear the obsidian and you only get one crate's worth back -- not sure how many it takes for a star since I already have it).
