Some comments on game and discussions
The neighboring topics were centered on several game drawbacks the criticism of which I've found intresting and thence decided to comment on it. First of all, it is mentioned that the game being bereft of dialog does not provide the player with sufficient information to follow the plot and understand what is actually going on or even what he,the player, is doing at the very moment. Not only this peculiarity is in accordance with the novel spirit(see "Not bad for an old game" topic by rcj8993) but also it is the main tool of reader's entertainment. Albeit the book allures with fine language and masterful discription of Victorian Realm its main attraction is thought to be the conclusion drawing part, when Holmes magically reasons into revealing the killer. The rub is how exactly is that fun. For some people the fun is the astonisment and amazement, Sherlock's unpredictability. For others that they've actually suceeded to guess the upcoming revelations. And lets be frank, the developer is doing all in his power to drag us to that point. We are made to read testimonies, examine scenes, search for stains on suspects clothes. (see screenshots) We are even made to Think(observe) via deduction bord interconecting objects. Now that is where detailed scenes come into play. The scenes pictures offer additional information, thats why the objects depictions are so small - unrealistic scenes with enlarged objects you wouldn't actually want to analyze in order to gather additional data. Another reason for objects being small is that you could yourself think and adopt Sherlock's methods, thus roleplaying the detective. That is ,I believe, what Doyle's fans are after. On the other hand, the quest auditory - yes, I can not but agree, - can be dissapointed for the game lacks the quest part. It is full of puzzles though not unlike Myst or Amanita Design game series and those went well.
