The Clockwork Man

The Clockwork Man

What happened to my SAVEs?!!
So, I've had no trouble launching but ...
I'm well into the game, at each re-launch, my game continues where I left off,
or, at least, it did...
But I've just re-launched to 'continue' and even tho I'm in the same profile, game launched from beginning and I can't continue. Looks like I'm going to have to start all over again, or
do I?

your thoughts?

Hello

Sorry you're having trouble. We haven't heard of a similar problem before (save running OK and then restarting).

Are you on Windows? Your save games are at C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEAppData\Roaming\Total Eclipse

I have no clue as to why this might happened -is there any chance someone else went to start the loaded game ? The game asks 'do you want to load your saved game? ' and if you say NO it asks "Do you want to delete your saved game and start over"? If you press YES then it starts again over that profile.

Did it give you any message before loading the save from the beginning?

In any case, i cannot see an immediate way for you to restore it if your profile save has been overwritten to the beginning again. However, I would be happy to play it and send you a save game. Do e-mail me at support [at] totaleclipsegames.com and tell me your OS and whereabouts in the game you are.

Take care
Update. Yes, I'm on Windows 7.
I have a theory as to what 'mght'? have happened?
I dowonloaded the demo and played through before buying the full game.
Before purchase, I uninstalled the Demo, yet after download/install of the purchased full game, I was allowed to continue from precisely the point left off, in the now uninstalled Demo.

Which, kinda surprised me, in a way. (However, I have seen other posts stating that sometimes just because you uninstall something, doesn't mean you've necessarily removed all files despite uninstalling).
Since I have very little understanding of how this 'magic box' (ie. my computer) actually works (lol!), when I was able to continue from an uninstalled Demo, in my newly purchased game, I chalked it up to 'that' .... somehow , some files were 'left behind'.

ANYWAY ...
I ended up starting over, with a completely new profile and have now finished the game.

Definitely recommend, btw. Can`'t wait to sink my chops into the second one! (Luv those STEAM bundles!) :)

Thanks for your assist Pixelsprite. Let me know what you think of my 'theory'?

Cheers!
Part II ...
wait, I didn't acutally state my 'theory' ...
I meant to say, that perhaps, because I was technically playing from a save point first achieved via 'the demo', maybe suddenly, the 'demo uninstall' fully kicked in`, which created some sort of conflict when it was realized that the iniitial saves actually were made via the demo, but by fully removing left over demo files, the purchased game saves having been built upon demo saves, and were linked so that now, no longer recognized as 'valid'? (And were 'sacrificed' along with the left over demo files removal?)

*shrugs* In the end, it just seemed so much simpler to 're-start' and hope it wouldn't happen again. And it didin't. I was able to return to the point I'd left off, from the newly created profile. (One not associated with the Demo).

The End.
I have completely lost you, lol!

What we've done is simple: the demo shares the saves with the full version. If you install the demo and then install the full game, we 've made it so that when you load the full version you can just continue from where the Demo left off.. So that you won't have to re-play the same area (of the demo) again.

Now, if you uninstalled the demo, after you installed the full version, this would (I think) also remove the save games if you accept it. Which means, you'll have removed the full version's save game as well. Oh wow now I sound confusing :D But now that I'm writing that theory I think that that's what you were saying as well.

In any case! I am happy that you liked the game, let me know if you like the second one as well!

Hello

I have the problem with the full version. No savegames can be reload. Incidentally, I use Steam Linux.
I could solve the problem as I have used a player name without special characters. So instead, "Bjorn" "Bjoern" was entered.
Behold, now I'm on to my saved games.
I hope this help.
RE: "let me know if you like the second one as well!"
Answer: DEFINITELY!
Luved the puzzles, the dialogue, the art and animation, the storyline ... speaking of which, I was reminded, in part of 'Syberia' - http://store.steampowered.com/sub/8224/ (another excellent adventure) :).

Just a quick note: I had uninstalled the Demo B4 Installing the full game (of The Clock work Man game 1).
and
I did have the occasional problem with game II SAVES not loading even tho I did NOT ever play/install the Hidden World Demo first.

This time tho, when last SAVE did not load, I got the `h - e - double hockey sticks' out of there so that nothing would get 'overwritten'.
When I re-loaded again, this time I was asked if I wanted to continue from my save point.
(that happened about 3 times, playing game II, yesterday).
What game engine did you use? (or, did you write your own)
I ask because I have so many amazing story ideas of my own that I want to commit to games but of course I have to learn a whole game creation system first so, if I'm going to commit to this, want to 'do it riight' the first time.
STEAM had Gamemaker Bundle on Sale: http://store.steampowered.com/app/217370/?snr=1_6_4__421# ---- read a great 'pro's and cons' article about Gamemaker and am wondering still, whether to jump on it, next time round or ...

Anyway, beautiful games - loved the protagonist, Miranda, and little Sprocket too --- is an 'Epilogue Episode` in the works?
Nevermind, took a quick moment to explore your website and found this!

The Story Behind Storytelling – Part 1

" Until then I look forward to the next chapter in The Clockwork Man series whether it be another Hidden Object game, a book, a graphic novel or something else entirely. I believe in the art direction, the characters and the story enough to know we can continue to creatively explore Miranda’s world.

Yes, and Sprocket’s world too."

yay! :)
Hello

I am very happy that you liked our game so much and I felt a touch of pride when you compared it with Syberia... I was TCM2's associate producer, level scripter, dialogue/journal writer, researcher, and lots of other stuff, you can find me in the credits .. so thank you :) I was influenced a lot by works of Jules Verne and Victorian scientists, as well as some strange basalt column formations found in Scotland...Also the Eden Project..

We actually did make our own engine for both games. GameMaker Studio, I don't know much about it, have heard good words from people using it though. I think it's a good tool to start making games with. There's a free version too as well, maybe you want to check that out..

Who knows what the future will bring for Sprocket (and Miranda, but I just adore Sprocket). For the moment he's the star in an iOS puzzle game (Clockwork Brain). I'd love to return to the Steampunk world though, we will see.

Take care

Thank you very much for this tip! Does this mean that you faced issues with special characters?

Put it this way, because of my first name me the problem hits more often than for many others.

Sagen wir mal so, aufgrund meines Vornamens trifft mich das Problem öfter als manch anderem ;-).
