Oh the horror! And I meant the state of the game. Alan Wake is a third person horror adventure game that focus heavily on the story rather than gameplay. However, I personally find it hard to digest the story as the plots are not interesting or anything near spectacular. I do admit it gets to me at first but halfway through the second chapter you have literally seen or have a taste of what the game has to offer 'cept for more dull plots.
The gameplay is linear. There are no decisions to make, consequences to face, brain cramping puzzles or even quick time event (yes I am getting desperate here) to give me the jolt of excitement. You traverse through the game via planned and crampped route with enemies to fight from places to places. The weapons are limited with some additional supporting side gears which makes all combat pretty straight forward once you get your strategy right for the first time!
Conversations are dull and while it seems the protagonist is in a dire situation he sure doesn't sound like one. The combinations of the above points only makes this game good for a single playthrough but you will need to play it at least twice to unlock all the achievements.
However the developers did do a couple of goods to the game such as unannoying soundtrack and effects. Plus they did throw in two additional episodes for free!
But all in, Alan Wake is still a decent game that does not deserve a NO. If you are in a mood for a softcore horror game, you can give this a try.
