I think it could have been better then what it is currently. Loved the graphics but gameplay is very uneven and I hate how they baddies always materialize right behind you. The lack of ammo is annoying as well. You get a shotgun and it has 2 bullets wow that going to help against 4 baddies. It reminds of a lot of Doom the newer version bad guys always jumping out a closet you just checked.

Alan Wake is fantastic. I think it is better that they give you little ammo. It make you conserve your shots and adds to the games survival atmosphere. The arcade game is also good. Check it out.

I really like the game for the concept, the plot, and the atmosphere, but the clunkiness of movement and the camera angle is frustrating at times. I get that part of the "scary" of survival horror is controls that are about as responsive as an old tractor, but it gets annoying after a while. If/when the next one comes out, I hope they make Alan a little more nimble, or maybe put the camera over his head instead of his shoulder.

I dont mind the controls they worked fine for me [I did have to change sensitivity]
the story line was epic in most senses of the word. as for ammo perhaps you should play it on an easyer difficulty.
OLD GODS OF ASGAURD FOR EVER

While I thought the story was a good (if slightly hackened), for me, the gameplay just sucked. The enemies appearing behind you (as already mentioned), the fact you can't usually out run them, the fact they keep taking your weapons away from you and forcing you to find new ones every five minutes (really Alan? If I was in your situation, you'd have to pry my flashlight from my cold dead hand, yet you keep managing to lose it after every other cut scene). And the actual fights were largely repeative, shine a light, shoot, shine a light, shoot some more.

I found it fun, and not repetative at all.

stil have a few hours to think about it ..
does the gameplay really suck ?

I originally rented it on the 360. The story of Alan wake is what did it for me, and the concept of these creatures that you have to take down with a flashlight was just brilliant. Once I saw it was on sale, I bought it. The controls people keep complaining about though, I can't say if they are worse on the PC. I didn't have any issues with them on the console.

I used a game-pad for the PC, worked perfectly.

This is the best game I have ever played... and I have played most of them since Wolfenstein 3D.
The story is epic and the game is full of thrlls.

HOWEVER, the best part of the game is something nobody has mentioned so far - it's music.
The background score really serves as the backbone of the game and is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

The score actually provokes the one emotion in the player that happens to be the quintessential element of the gameplay - fear of the darkness beyond the beam of light emitted by Alan's torch.

Heck, I bought the game score (not the soundtrack) on CD and I paid more for it than I paid for the special edition of the game (which comes with a *much* shorter version of the score on CD anyway).

Trust me, this is one gem of a game.
