Boring is the only way to describe this.
It is repetitive as hell, although I am now fixed on the story and want to find out what happened, as the ending isn't wrapped up as they thought there would be a sequal. So now I am playing the DLC episodes and the american nightmare to see what happens, although I do not think this will help whatsoever. At least when I am done it will be off my backlog.

Interesting. I'll have to make sure to write this down somewhere...

I didn't find the gameplay boring at all, every chapter feels diferent and I like combat, I like how it works. But the most important parts - the atmosphere, the story and the characters are amazing. I'm actually playing this game the third time on Nightmare and enjoying it very much.

I'm only 2 chapters into the game and it already feels repetitive. However i like the mechanics that blur the screen when something bad is going to happen. What's best is that the game manages to hold up this feeling that something is going to happen any second. Especially when you find a manuscript page. This over-the-shoulder 3rd person view was very disturbing at the beginning but mostly because the default settings for mouse were too sensitive and hardly controllable.

I'm with OP having jsut completed it. The game is very repetitive and, for me at least, I found the story tedious, though I understand not everyone will share that view. I found the camera angle awful. Context sensetive music, blurred screen and slow motion when someone tries to sneak up on you so you have a chance to dodge out of the way, really ruins the atmosphere because its a big flashing neon sign whenever one triggers, saying "something is about to happen", so there arent really any surprises at all, just plenty of warning. This may be different on nightmare, I'll never know, I played normal and I'm not going to play nightmare, because I'm just not gonna play it again.
The only redeeming qualities any of the characters had for me, was the odd remark from Barry, the rest were just "yawn" and forgettable.

Glad I am not the only one, I understand some people really liking it, I did for awhile, but after chapter 4, it gets so there are no different guns, why not a flamethrower of some kind? I know the guns were there to try and keep it more close to the story, but it made it much worse imo. I liked the story but was slightly bummed by the fact that even after the DLC it didn't close the story, as I want to find out what happened to alan, but there might not be another sequal considering sales were not what was expected (for bad reasons).

Wait till the end, then it will be like "What happened?" then you will find out that it is open for a sequal, that is never going to come.

Yes it is, just not now according to Remedy. Since the game sold so insanely well on PC (they went plus after just 48 hours) it's more than likely to come in the next years.

Well if it does, then it should just wrap up the series, and please don't be so repetitive! :)

Sure it can get a bit repetitive if you play for long instances, but the atmosphere, story, characters and the environment more than makes up for it in my book. I'm on my 3rd playthrough now on Nightmare and I still love it.

It does become tedious after a while......

I completed the game 10 minutes ago and I loved every minute of it.
The game was challenging at times, especially the bulldozer part. However, I thought I was playing on normal diffuculty but I got the hard difficulty achievement.
The story/characters were very good and I really enjoyed their presentation.
I wouldn't say Alan Wake is scary; I would say there is a lot of tension, like in any good thriller. I will definitely will give it another playthrough one day.

I played the original release on the 360 and loved the game. Sure after a long time into the game the mechanics do get a little dull but its a good game overall.

Just played american nightmares, and you have to play the same parts, just with different dialog 3 times!!! What genius made that? It was decent but having to do the same stuff 3 times made the game feel rather cheap to me, but I did pay just over a £1 for it.

It's not repetative. It's called a Theme. The Darkness is powerful, but not very intelligent-- it only has the strength and inventiveness to posess human beings and inanimate objects. I loved fighting bigger and bigger waves of Taken throughout the game. It's fun to get better and better at it, honing your skills with each encounter. That you failed to suspend your disbelief enough to let it suck you in is your own problem.

I also disagree 100% about the ending. Plenty of closure. Were you not paying attention to the story? That sucks. It's very rich.

Such self-entitlement on your part, experiencing one of the best games of our generation and immediately falling back on "where's my sequel?" Getting pretty tired of people whining about the game not being what they want it to be instead of appreciating it for what it is.
