Worth getting? -Realistic review for Noobs by Noobs
Indeed!
At 3 dollars the only question is:
Is this thing worth your time and energy?

I got "Alan Wake" a while ago when it was 90% off and I found it to be one of the biggest gaming disappointments ever! Here is my two cents: Alan Wake PC - 90% off - May 2013

WHOOOW! I have never seen such a polarized crowd. It seems that you either love or hate this game! I’m still sticking to everything I have said. Although the last part of course, is utterly ridiculous…

Let me also mention that I did enjoy the stand alone addon: “American Nightmare”!
It caters a lot better to what I want out of this type of a game.
“Alan Wake” itself, seems to be more for the intellectuals, the ones who can empathize with Mr. Wake, the ones who prefer plot over combat and also have an attention span that is longer than the 10 minutes of a FFA match ; )

Not everyone shares your opinion...This is one of my favorite games of all time. The story and atmosphere are top notch if you ask me.
If your into dark, psychological horror games set in the woods... you have to try this game out. Dont let this guy keep you from playing one of the best games ever made.

Also, to the OP, you cant blame the game for your poor hardware specs.

To be honest, I am shocked how many people liked it. yeah, the story was ok, but you still had to torture yourself through the repetitive, boring and dull gameplay. The spooky forest got boring about 3 hours in, because you got nothing else and I am one of the most easily scared people out there.

When your game is BETTER without the part where you actually play, you should just make a movie.

i'd give it an 8/10, well yea it's mostly becouse of the story but gameplay is also good. The game isn't scary but definitly fun to play. I completed it once and now i'm doing it a second time

ijust finished episoed 1, about halfway through episoed 2 and damn. what a dissapointment. if you enjoy games that make it hard by beeing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ then this game is for you. you pick up flares, then suddenly cant use them in a fight even though you used themn not 30 seconds ago in a fight. certain points in the story, you literly have to go huting for other weaps to have enough amo to be able to kill the repetitive enemys. OH and they will show them pop up behind you, but only show maybe 1 out of 4 dudes, so you find yourself suddenly surrounded when you thought there was only one guy.

in short its not worth retail. get it on sale if you feel like playinga ♥♥♥♥ game

I bought it; it's okay not great. I'd echo the earlier points that the story is 8/10, gameplay 5/10. Overally it's worth a go for £3.

This is also one of my favorite games! I've been watching for it to go on sale, and was thrilled to have just barely made the cut off for the cheap as heck purchase earlier! I played it on 360. Have Alan Wake avatar stuff even.

I was honestly creeped out trying to play this game in the dark lol...It's along the lines of that one Silent Hill game where you essentially just ran away to live to fight for another day. Except there was no fighting, which makes this game better. You have the option to really defend yourself if need be.

I think that a lot of people don't like it because it's a different style of gameplay. They're used to being able to run in, guns blazing, and that's just not the style of this game. Whereas, I loved it for exactly that reason. I'm not saying that anyone's opinion is right or wrong here. :)

that is the point of this game, it's supposed to be difficult and to freak you out about not haivng a way to defend yourself. not to mention it's a thriller type game, they're not going to warn you about all the bad guys. that would make it way too easy and a lot less creepy. O_o that or you're just a horrible shot and waste ammo like no one's business lol.

uh, This will be my third time playing it. I love it.

I am shocked by the people who don't like this game, but that just tells me that it's not for everyone.. I guess. It's like people saying Half-Life 2 is a bad game (and yes, my gaming from Alan Wake comes pretty close to the epic-ness of the Half-Life series, and I'm a big fan of those).

Anyways, aside from the awesome story (and I think everyone agrees that the story is awesome) this game has one of the most satisfying gameplay. IMO. Walking around with a flashlight, etc, the graphics are great too. Just one of the few games where I went and explored every corner during daytime and ran scared for my life during nighttime. But those day time moments are GREAT, just talking or exploring.. having a little break from "the darkness" before venturing on. And I loved the car driving those times that you get a car.

I think I forgot to mention that from the start on it nearly plays as a book. Collecting lost pages, and constantly reading up on the story (or more like listening, since it's voice acted). I loved it.

But ofcourse, as I said, some people don't like this game. Probably those CoD players who can't kill in any form of shooter game except CoD .. yea, anything will be too hard for you then.

I'm digging it so far, and I have a similarly specced pc as reviewer and it runs fine for me. A little tearing but I only notice it when I'm looking for it.

I honestly cannot understand how anyone could find the gameplay anything but tidious. You literally repeat the same combat tactic over and over and over, to the point where you just want the level to end, because you stopped having fun and not long after, you stopped being scared either. The long forests with their 200 enemies, who are all the same, really got on my nerves and pretty much ruined the entire experience for me.

It really went kind of like this.
"Running through the forest... music gets scary... short clip of attackers... 2 seconds of flashlight... 3 shots to the chest... repeat to next enemy... running through the forest again... music gets scary..."

American Nightmare was, in that regard, much better. It's story was shorter and therefore had less space to develope, but the gameplay was actually fun.

I like how you bring your point(s) across : )

But yes, you can just delete them,
top right corner, look for the trash-can that will appear.

I should have mentioned that I enjoy Alan Wake’s “American Nightmare” (Stand alone Addon) a lot more, game-play-wise and as a technical product.

My problem with "Alan Wake" is that I was looking for an survival horror game with the god-like combat of Max Payne, but I found myself in a Stephen King novel.
