Alan Wake lags
Why is Alan Wake lagging for me?
Sometimes my frame rate drops to 30-50 fps in some places and its annoying. Is it because of my pc?
I'm playing on custom settings (see my settings below) with 1680x1050. I can go up to 1920x1080 but then it runs even slower.

Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 3,2 GHz
Deep Cool ICEEDGE 400 NI
4 GB of RAM DDR2, 800Mhz
Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870, 1 GB, 940/1185 Mhz
Corsair 600CX ATX 600W
ASRock G31M-S
Case Fan Led AK-170CB-4BLS 80 mm
Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit
LG 23,6" LCD W2443T-PF
5.1 Genius SW-HF5.1 6000

Are you using antialising and/or anisotropic filtering? It's best to leave those turned off or to application controlled. You should upgrade your RAM & CPU also, but turning AA & AF off would give you a nice performance boost.

Thank you for your comment.
Yeah, I tried that and it gives me a nice boost but I don't like the way it looks then.
And about upgrading, well... I can run almost all games on high except this one and BF3...
but yeah, I will upgrade it soon. But before I will upgrade my CPU or get a new PC, do you think upgrading my RAM to like 8 GB will help my Frame rates a lot?

Thanks.

You mostly just need a faster CPU. The RAM isn't as important. The dedicated memory on your card is more important. If you want to play at the highest resolutions then go for a gfx card with 2 or 3 GB dedicated memory. That's why you're losing fps when you try to go to 1080, especially with AA & AF on.

Another thing about gfx card memory is to make sure it's GDDR5 and also pay attention to what bit the card is. Some cards are only 192 bit and higher end cards are 256 or up to 512 bit. If you had 2 or 3 GB of that then you could run at the highest res with antialising and anisotropic filtering just fine.

I have a mid range GTX 660 TI OC and can run with AF on, but I notice the drop in framerate at 1080. It has 2 GB of dedicated memory so games still run at a decent speed. This card is only 192 bit, but the extra GDDR5 memory helps.

BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. P1.80, 8.7.2009
SMBIOS Version 2.4

Thank you for the info! I will definitely try that out. Looks like my bios version is pretty old.
