Just game no DLC
Okay I am interested in this game but am also a cheapskate and was wanting to know if the American Nightmare is worth the extra cash or should I just get the game?

Alan Wake is a solid package by itself. The DLC is more of a sidestory thing and doesn't exactly add much.

If it turns out you like Alan Wake, you could pick up the DLC for loose change the next time it rolls around on sale. If you hate Alan Wake, you haven't lost anything if you just buy the main game.

Well, American Nightmare story is around 4 hours long and continuation from the ending of Alan Wake. For 2 euros you can't really go wrong.

American Nightmare is a stand-alone, not DLC for the first game.

American Nightmare is like a cheapened out version of a sequel. Definitely no "omg you have to play this" kind of thin,g not even if you enjoyed the original game. The whole game feels like a cheaper arcade-esque version of Alan Wake, minus the intriguing story and brilliant atmosphere.
*MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS* You basically run through the same three locations over and over again until the end of the game, unlocking more powerful weapons as you go and... that's it.*SPOILERS END HERE... MOSTLY*
The story is set a while after the original game, but honestly, it's not a must. It's nice to see what happened afterwards, but the point where the story ended in the original game was just fine as it is.
