turn graphics down or get better graphics card

turn off anti-virus software or firewall.. close all other programs before launching the game(except STEAM ofcourse).. turn your graphic settings lower, for example shadows are not really needed in the game.. and if you really want to play good games, invest in a good game machine, mine lasted me for 4 years and still using it and no issue with playing new graphics intensive games.. :D

I hate to be "that guy", but this isn't a multiplayer game so you are not experiencing "lag"!

If you are experiencing intermittent stuttering or a constantly low frame rate, turn down the graphics settings or try to play this on some more capable hardware.
Even a sub $100 [relatively recent] graphics card will suffice for this and the vast majority of other games on steam.
AW is also particularly heavily multi-threaded, so perhaps try running on a multi core system as well.

What spec machine do you have ?
I've got an i7 2600K overclocked to 4.5GHz with 8G of ram and a nVidia 580GTX graphics card and I cannot play it.
i get 2FPS with the Remedy intro vid, then the game says that my machine doesn't meet the minimum requiments. Dropping to the basic settings doesn't help.

update drivers maybe? I've got a 5 year old Sony VAIO desktop computer with a new graphics card that was about 70$ and I can play this game on medium/high, also try validating the files(possibly a corrupt download) because I've had games give me problems from a bad download

Feel free, mate. The constant misuse of that word drives me up the wall as well. Guess that's what comes with cutting your internet gaming teeth on dial-up!
