How is it?

First game I remember seeing with a steam forum with no threads. Eek.

It's $25 here; and on sale at gamestop for $10, so wondering how it is.

Reviews are pretty mixed but a low metacritic of 44; I read one giving it '7 out of 8' that's positive about a lot of rpg elements with different things to do.

it's definitely not worth the $25. maybe worth the $10 if you're bored and are waiting on new games to come out. I would pass and play something free for awhile.

Theres a demo. $25 no $10 maybe if you like the demo. I think I paid $8.74 ? Have approx 37 hours of gameplay so far. Game needs a bit of depth beyond the story maybe and maybe the ability to rebind the camera button from mouse 3 to a keyboard key.

Theres other games you might want to consider. gog.com has some old first person shooter ones that still work with some tweaking like freespace 2 (mission based game only) or independence war 2.

x3 terran conflict might be better theres demos for it. x rebirth may come out around xmas or early next year.

There really aren't that many good space games and everyones taste will vary. Most of these game may go on sale at xmas (unlikely halloween or thanksgiving sale).

This game couldn't be a bigger peice of poop if it came out of a dinosaurs backside. Who the hell make a space game that doesn't have a z-axis it makes the hole game fell like you are on rails space is big I want to feel that when I play. granted I only gave this game an hour but I just couldn't get past the movement problems wish there had been a demo before I paid for it the only thing this game had going for it was the graphics.

There are alot of good space games some of them are listed above but this isn't one. the X-univers is a well rounded serise. I would also recomend Freelancer and Tachyon: The Fringe thede 2 are aging I haven't replayed them in a while so the graphics might not be holding up if that is important to you but hey Tachyon has Bruce Campbell as the main chars voice what more do you need.

PS relauch Wing Commnader and not that junk xbox live version from 2007. If the Resident Evil movies couldn't kill that games franchise I think Wing Commander can pull out of that tailspin it was left in.

Independence War 1 is a total classic, a lot of mystery, epic battles, impressive cutscenes and you can play with all the systems of your ship or just take the helm and let the crew do the rest, Independence War 2 was the typical case of a sequel that is nothing like the previous game

I have this game and it didn't grab me. Played it about 4 hours.
One thing to note, in a BTW kinda way: this was written by one dude. And it didn't take 11 years (looking at you Cortex Command). At least it's a finished game and it works without crashing or other face/palm problems.

I played the GamersGate for about 20 hours, give or take. All things considered, the game is alright, just not as mind-blowing as you'd hope a space-faring game would be. I'm honestly tempted to pick it up for $6.50 while it's on the steam sale, but hesitate if only because I wonder if my priorities will ever shift as such to make time for it.

There's plenty to do in the game, but it's not quite as open-ended as you'd think: if you deviate far from where your current scenario campaign sends you, you tend to die messily. Maybe it opens up more later in the campaign?

I think perhaps my lead complaint about the game is how all your weapons fire at once. It's pretty much just a game about circling your foe and nailing their weaker shield quadrants while avoiding them falling into yours. In that way and others, this isn't the intricate starship sim you may have been expecting. However, it's not completely actiony, either. At least the ship customization has a lot of options.

Worst. Game. Ever.

At first, it allows you to dogfight reasonably well. Then it locks you camera on some point in the distance and expects you to dogfight while looking at every side of your ship while not showing you what the ship(s) you're fighting are doing.

Don't waste your money.

I'd have to agree with most of this. The game showed a lot of promise out of the gate but quickly deteriorated. The tutorial is bad. Very vague on what exactly they are talking about. Very glitchy as well. I had to restart it twice when it got stuck because I didn't do EXACTLY what it said at the exact right time. I couldn't get past the third training drone in the tutorial. It was destroying my sheilds at 500 meters but I couldn't hit it until I closed to 200. After fleeing and repairing six times I finally flew close enough to hit it and it just blew me out of space after bagging all 4 of my shield arrays. THAT's the tutorial training drone? You've got to be kidding me... tells me the actual game will be BEYOND sadistic. Oh, and of course it glitched again and froze the screen when I blew up. I couldn't escape out, tab out - nothing. 2D axis in space... seriously? that's just plain bad. It's obvious a lot of thought went into the details of 'stuff' in the game but not into mehanics or playability and least of all fun. Don't waste your time or money unless you enjoy sadism and frustration.

I havent experienced any bugs yet. Good game just needs more depth. People with the camera problem, you can move the camera around by holding the middle mouse button and also you can click it 3 times to put it back to normal. Havent seen any gliches in the 12 hours ive played so far.

First of all, I bought this game out of pure curiosity as this genre is a bit...dead. Indeed, final polishing was a bit uncompleted and VO is suspicious. But then again, you get a really HUGE game followed by a nice storyline. Let me emphasize again, HUGE game. Over 50 different large sectors (arenas), dozens of ship designs that you can upgrade and personalize further, completely open world universe and rather complex RPG system. I think the price is a bargain for so much content, particulary if you are space game junkie. I purchased a game in gold edition that had all DLC's included and had no technical issues so far.
In addition, few days ago I saw screenshots from Starpoint Gemini 2 that was supposed to be released this year. And, if nothing is ♥♥♥♥♥, sweet mother....what an upgrade!

I dunno what to say folks, I'm not gonna give this game a beating, it's a pleasureable lil' game, some say they had quirks, and yes, there are some bugs, and is a bit raw, but still, gave me a lotta funplay, bought it at a 50 % discount, and I say it was a good bargain.
