Ship Speed is Slow

After getting to chapter 3, my ship now only goes as fast as a speed of 5. I have tried different ships and repurchased my dreadnought and yet no matter which class thrusters I use, I max at 5. I am ready to stop playing because of how slow this is. Has anyone experienced this and is so how do I fix the problem?
