My computer keeps crashing during game play
Hey so as the title suggests my computer keeps freezing whilst playing games such as Arma and battlefield 3 and im trying to figure out why. Here are my specs:

Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Overclock: 25%
Radeon HD 7950 Sapphire 3GB Boost Edition Overclock: 10%
8 GB DDR3 1600MHz
1TB HDD
Win 7 64
DX11

Here is what i have tried so far to fix this problem:
- Virus scan
- Malware scan
- Registry clean
- Hardware test
- validating game cache on steam
- reset computer to factory settings

If anymore info is needed please ask. Thanks!

Chances are either your CPU or GPU are overheating. Check the temps while running the games to see if they're spiking too high. Sometimes even tho you pay for an OC'd card, they don't like to run that fast so you might downclock a bit just to be sure.

If not that, then it could be bad RAM. Try running MEMTEST86 for a couple passes to make sure

Did you oc or did you buy it overclocked? Liquid cooling? All fans working? How long do you play before it freezes? I'm assuming it is a pretty new pc due to the specs. Did you stress test it before you started gaming on it? Someone more knowledgable feel free to jump in.

Hey so when running games i get temps of just over 40 degrees and i have removed OC but they games still seem to crash and i did do a stress test which it passed so im thinking its hardware related so i will try MEMTEST86 for a couple of passes.

Quick update I ran the MEMTEST86 and no errors were found after multiple passes! Any other ideas?

Maybe this can help...

Do you have any BSOD codes to share?

your PC Crashes or just turn it off?

At a first look.... can be your PSU that just turn it off or reboot when stressed.

My computer does not blue screen it just crashes the game then i get sent to the desktop.

In arma 2 every once in a while my game would minimize. With my new pc, similer to lukewhitworth except for 7970 I have no problems in either game. Could something in the game files be corrupted ? Maybe try a fresh install. Does it crash when a certain thing happens or just randomly?

still sounds to me like it's a hw or maybe driver issue. Did you try updating or rolling back your gpu drivers? Might also check on updated drivers for your mobo/sound

if your pc is rtd all the time then it sounds like a driver issue, remove drivers with driver fusion...reboot...clean registry with ccleaner or a good reg cleaner(personally i prefer Auslogics boostspeed)...reboot and install latest certified drivers, what brand and bios version is your mobo and also what brand of ddr3 are you running

overheating problems, overclocking problems, or something like that. that goes if you tried formating pc and fresh install of windows. if not, trie that.

for everyone their game is minimizing and won't start back up, you are still in the game, in multiplayer you still interact with the world.

press shift + - on the numpad (don't worry if you don't see anything, thats normal) and type " flush ". that flushes your vram and makes room, because sometimes the arma engine doesn't clean your vram and therefor.. you know what i mean.

I have tried all this and it doesnt work but i think i figured it out to be a problem with my video memory so im sending my graphics card back to the manufacturer under warranty.

I also experience a problem. I just bought the game, did a fresh install of 7 put directx on etc. But as soon as I go to play the game with my friend on multilayer it seems I can run about for a few moments after spawning, but then everything freezes, and the machine crashes where I am forced to reboot, I cant even alt-tab to task-manager. The odd thing is its happening also in red orchestra 2, but its a bit more playable, the things I notice are black shapes appearing in the sky on screen, accompanied by moments of heavy lagging, (not playing online) No overclocking is taking place and the card is at 40. i have 24 gig of ddr3. I also have it on a disk which is doing 300MB/s.

I have similar specs (2x 7970s & 3570k is @ 4.8 ghz) Are you getting the "ARMA 3 has stopped working" dialog or are you getting the "Driver has failed but recovered" dialog? I was getting the "stopped working" dialog when Arma 3 proved my gpu overclocks unstable but once I removed them the game was stable. It turned out that my voltage was too high and crashed the game with the "Arma 3 has stopped working" message. But if you went to stock clocks on everything then it probably not that. What driver are you on?
