ArmA is no longer a milsim
BI calling this a milsim is incorrect, ArmA is now a tactical shooter.
You cant simulate the future 20 years on with every unit, weapon and vehicle either fictional or very much a rl prototype which probably will never be common in any army.

Thats what has made the ArmA series so amazing... the fact you could jump in the notorious Mi24, the praised M1A1 or shoot the legendary AK-47... every vehicle and weapon is widely used and known by all even the greenest of people.

Really hope BI make some kinda official DLC or mod (for owners of A2) and port/mod ArmA2 content to ArmA3.

i do not agree with that. it is military simulation. even if it was pure sci-fi, it can be simulation. arma 3 near future doesn't change a thing about simulation. it's not like it simulates transformers or something unreal.
specially that tactical shooter lebel. so if it is not in present day, but in near future, it suddenly becomes tactical shooter? doesn't make sense to me, sorry. you can call red river or brothers in arms tactical shooter. arma 3 is simulation, and that's genre, that can't be changed because it's setting is in near future.
chernarus is fictional too, so now it is not army simulation driven by that logic.

and i too hope they import complete arma 2 content in arma 3. there was some speculation about that, hope idea will somehow come to bi's ear :D
arma 2 was/is epic game.

I would wait for the beta/released game before i judge. most of the stuff is not in the game yet
especially all that the op mentioned :)

Yeah definitely like to see the ArmA2 content in the game or the ArmA3 maps in ArmA 2. It is non the less still a mili-sim though even if it is more futuristic. What bugs me the most is that the new maps do not have 2 (normal sized) airbases like Takistan has, Takistan map is perfect. The airbase on Stratis is to big to defend (requires way to much players/AI) and I believe Altis will also have 1 giant airbase.

By the way, all vehicles and weapons in this game are inspired by those which are being used today. When 2030 comes, this'll look pretty much up to date.

Arma 3 isn't a mil-sim anymore. Is a game about ninjas.

Ninjas play free...

i'm sure there will be no maps from arma 3 in arma 2, in fact i think we'll se no more content for arma 2. it's arma iii time :D just hope it will be intergrated in arma 3 in future, as dlc at least.

Isn't and has always been arma about the mods and addons? The community will deliver tons of new content (as in the past ArmA games) and I am sure there will be tons of stuff set in "todays warfare".

BI developer "neokika" on the forum:

"Nop, it's a game, with simulation elements. VBS is a simulator."

ArmA 2 cover:

to me the cover is a lie and i could list several reasons for it, but just take the word of an ArmA developer there, should be enough.

and btw simulation is imitating something that exists, if you create imaginary futuristic stuff (not the case in ArmA 3) you are not simulating anything.

i honestly dont know how you can say that its in alpha your commenting on a test build of a game when its 100% finished then pass judgement

Cause BI have and will always design their game for coop (theres a million examples but a simple one is A2 grass... then theres crappy character animations and movement which makes pvp difficult, most map designs are in noway catering for pvp etc etc)

And mods/addons are ArmAs saviour but would be nice if it was official so it doesn't fracture the community like mods do.

I think your having a complete over-reaction personaly, i have the vaguest idea of the guns you listed in the OP aside from the ak-47, and it never effected me in the slightest, could have been making up weapons left and right for all i know.

As long as the gameplay and spirit of the rest of the series i fail to see how slightly different guns/vehicles undercut or change anything, the stuff they have added and are going to add for the most part are already real, its not like plasma cannons or anything, its a slightly different looking humvee or gun.
