I knew you guys are seriously awesome, but that alpha footage looks too good to
be true. And, multiplayer? Hell, yeah!

I really like the direction the art is going, and that engine already looks amazing.

This seems to me like a very big step ahead in terms of engine and full 3D,

Lol, I am glad you like it. I am a 39 year old fanboy sometimes too. The reception has been great and I just had a 1 hour nap to celebrate. :)

Wow! I never would have expected you guys to go in full 3D!

I absolutely love everything I saw so far, the segments of ships blowing apart/off, the shield and weapon effects, the tiny escape pods firing off from an exploding ship....

To go from SPAZ 1 and it's style and graphics to what I saw from this trailer...in 16 months! Clearly you guys know what you are doing, I'll be happy to wait another 16 months or more for SPAZ 2. I am really looking forward to this game!

So multiplayer said... local coop... is there any way its going to be like 2-player coop over the internet? Like, a buddy could right click my name in steam and go 'join game' like it does with magicka and team fortress 2 and whatnot? Or does local coop mean two people + one keyboard?

Just watched the trailer, and it is, simply put, incredible! Gotta agree with Setzway, never thought that you'll jump into full 3D. No wonder it took you so long to produce the first trailer :) But it was well-worth the wait, especially (and it seems that that's the case) if the game lets you combine strategic top-down view and 3-rd person no-holds-barred rampage (good golly, you can actually RAM stuff now!).

Models of the ships look gorgeous, the space itself gives a very lively impression. And that giant station that pulled rocks from an asteroid belt and threw 'em at other ships? That made me salivate.

I don't think I've been that excited about any other upcoming games since, well, probably Wasteland 2 Kickstarter announcement. Wish you the best in the rest of development, folks!

Online coop we will try but we don't promise it yet mainly because the amount of data required to propagate is pretty nuts. We have some ideas though. We also don't want to delay development too much with that task currently because it is huge. It is a bit of a balancing act to get the game in peoples' hands in a timely manner. Just like last time, we plan to be quite supportive of the game long term.

Local coop means two people sitting on a couch right now, or couch and keyboard. The input mapping for the game is very robust.

looks promising, and it seems like you're moving closer to space rangers gameplay-wise, which is not a bad thing (I mean the world events independent from you, etc.) but I'm a bit (well, very) skeptical about the 2d-3d thing. if movement and controls are gonna be anything like in starpoint gemini (the first one, apparantly they're going full 3d in the sequel), it might be a dealbreaker on its own, it just didn't work for me, controlling a spaceship on a 2d plain while shooting in 3d. or is there gonna be an option to play completely in top-down view, like the first game? that'd be sweet.

Yup top down is just a click of a button. Totally player preference. There is a 3rd person cam, cinematic cam, and top down cam. All work well for playing. I prefer 3rd person because I like to look far in the distance without needing to zoom out but that is just me. There is also a sniper first person cam which will zoom to a gun sight view from any other cam and look wherever the reticule is currently pointing. I will also pick up Star Point Gemini to see what's up there. I have not played it, so I better be able to detail any similarities/differences if a question like this comes up in the future. Thanks for the head's up.
