No way to progress the story?

I am at the system right beside the one I need to go to to advance th story. However the warp gate to move on is not there. I can see 2 warp gates where I am....the one I came from and another that leads to a small dead-end cul-de-sac but none where I want to go. On the Star Map the current system shows as having 3 connections. Any help?

That system is probably accessible from a different direction. Try circling around, you might have to make a detour. Also, a screenshot would help.

It's a long long long way around. I'd be passing through level 40+ systems to get there that way. The target system is level 17.

You might have to retrace from somewhere long before that point to avoid higher-level systems - the game normally provides you those, but maybe across the entire rim of the galaxy. However, I can believe that some galaxies are generated much more difficult than others - such is the nature of the random generation. You might have to grind it up and get some better tech/higher levels, since you're gonna need them in the future anyway. The story in this game is rather short, and grinding takes most of the time.

The main point is my current system is showing as having 3 connections and it only has 2 gates. So that's a bug, right? And does this happen often?
