Bastion breathes fresh air on the dungeon crawler genre, which has been stuck on crappy spells/skills and stat-based combat for decades.

The combat in Bastion is simple yet much more satisfying than in any game like D3 or Torchlight. It's fast, strategic and requires skills, timing and precision. Most importantly, it's not stat-based. There are no background "dice throws" calculating whether your blow hit or missed the target based on abstract numbers like defense and attack rating.

The story is interesting. The ending and it's implications might encourage your to go for a second play through.

The art design, while maybe hit-or-miss to some, is gives a deceptively lively tone to an otherwise grim story.

The ever present narrator is a nice touch and offers a good excuse to deliver exposition without breaking the frantic gameplay with cut scenes and dialog breaks.

My brief thoughts on Bastion:
Amazing musical score.
Great narrative.
Interesting story.
Unique level design, albeit linear.
Repetitive combat/gameplay.

Pretty much tell your friends if they're into a nice refreshing game with a neat story this game actually takes the cake. I was honestly surprised at how nice this game is. The narrative kept me chuckling every now and again, while at the same time was rather informative. The musical score is actually quite pleasing to the ear. The story itself is seriously interesting. Even my wife and my sister were sitting there watching me play, and that's saying alot. Very unique leveling system, although it may seem a bit linear it does flow nicely with the combat system. Overall 9/10 which is mostly contributed to the replay value of this game. Oh and I forgot to mention will prove a bit challenging at times. Worth every penny.

this game won more than a hundred awards, if your word and these awards are not enough for them then they won't appreciate this game at all...they gonna miss out on the greatest narrative experience a game can offer...I bought it just because I liked the music and the narrator, but the story is not bad either, the combat is fun, altough not as adrenalin-pumping as torchlight2,but combat is just secondary in this case compared to the story and atmosphere
tell your friends that if they wan't to hear an original story with a "unique" narrative than Bastion is a must have...and hey,it's cheaper than pack of cigarettes now so why wouldn't you buy it?
