Future updates for PixelJunk Eden (Ports / Fixes / Features)
Dear PixelJunkies,

First off, I want to thank all of the PixelJunk fans, from the old school PS3ers to our new Steam family. It's been amazing watching people discover and reconnect with PixelJunk games that have made it to Steam over the past couple years. You all have been great and we want to continue to support the community of PixelJunk fans here.

With that said (!) I'd like to give an update on future updates for PixelJunk Eden.

There have been a few outstanding issues that we've hoped to fix or improve for PixelJunk Eden since it was launched on Steam. Improvements for compatibility with graphics cards, UI improvements, porting to other OS, and restoring cut features, are things we have discussed internally on many occasions.

Last year it was our intention to remove the outstanding weeds in the garden during the porting process to Mac and Linux. With Double Eleven helping out with the ports, we hoped it could be wrapped up fairly quickly. Alas, that hasn't been the case!

A spanner was tossed in the mix thanks to a hardware problem here when the server and data we used to build Eden and port it to the PC became corrupted. It is technically feasible for us to get the code back to a place where we can begin to patch it. But with staff tied up in other projects like PixelJunk Inc., we can't spare the month it would take to repair it. Double Eleven is also tied up in other PixelJunk projects, like Shooter 2, at the moment. So for the time being, things have been put on hold.

We never relish giving people half-answers or bad news regarding a project. Unfortunately, this is one of the harsh realities of game development (and of community management!). There is still a possibility that development time and resources can be reconciled in order to push some of the changes through, but it won't be in the near future.

We've got some great things lined up in 2014, like PixelJunk Inc., Shooter 2, and some really cool things we can't wait to share with everyone.

Thanks for understanding,

p0rk1ns

I would so love to see an OSX port. Eden looks very intriguing.

Damn that sucks. Thanks for the heads up. Would still love to see it on OS X and SteamOS one day!

Keep up the good work!

Your computer crashed and you don't have a backup, wow!
Anyway if you get the code working again you can outsource the Mac conversion to Aspyr or a company like them that focusses on OSX conversions. A game this size will be finished quickly I guess.

ive had this game for a long time and have never actually been able to play it due to the unacceptable compatibility issues of this port. because of your giving up on this game and not putting the time to have ever fixed the issues, i cant say im interested in getting any other games from your development team when you are still selling this game on steam and it has never been fixed from something not so difficult to fix.

Thanks for the sad news. It's not easy to hear since this was the game that really hooked me into PixelJunk games. However, I do look forward to future ports and future games.

Can't wait for Shooter 2! Perhaps, SideScroller could find its way here, too?

Well, Shooter Ultimate is on its way to the PS4/Vita soon, so we could be seing it on Steam soon!

I just popped in to check the state of the Linux port and saw this. :( Guess I shouldn't have bought it yet. Good thing I stuck it in my inventory so I can trade it away.

Well that sucks, never even got to play it. I was actually checking in to see if you guys had fixed anything yet. Can't say I'd willingly risk wasting my money again on anything by PixelJunk...

I'm sorry to hear that, Nimue004. While we've wanted to port over to Mac/Linux for some time now, unfortunately it's been impossible. We'd hoped that Double Eleven, who did the Steam versions of Monsters Ultimate and Shooter, would finish the port of Eden. But the sales of Shooter weren't great, despite them doing all three platforms, so they have put that idea on the shelf for now. We don't have the resources internally at the moment, as it would take at a couple people off other projects for a few months.

In the future, any PixelJunk or Q-Games titles that are on Steam will most likely be developed with Mac/Linux in mind.

Despite the sad fact that Eden (and possibly now SideScroller and Shooter 2 unless ...Ultimate) will never come to Linux, this is still quite encouraging. Given the quality of previous titles, I look forward to spending as much time on my couch with SteamOS and PixelJunk as I did on my PS3.

I'm sorry to say that it's just an economical issue. There's hope for titles like SideScroller (should D11 decide to port it) but I think the sales of Shooter on Steam were really discouraging for them. I'd love to see Shooter Ultimate on Steam, also, but I don't think that's in the mix at the moment either.
