Do I need to enter the CD key everytime lauching the game???
HI everyone,

As the title say, I donwload the game and lauch it. For the first time, it says I need to enter the CD Key, so I copy and enter it, the game is lauched and everything goes well so far. But after quit, I go and lauch the game again, it tells me to add CD Key again (it's the same CD Key though) ??? Does anyone have this annoying problem? Any suggestion?

My OS: Win7 64bit, nVIDIA card, run the game though STEAM application.

It happens if you do not install the game properly but copy-paste it from somewhere else. Like starting it after formating your windows drive.

If you have a slow internet connection, backup the game folder before uninstalling the game, then start the installation process (download) > close steam > copy back the folder > start steam > wait to verify>> play

OK, thanks for advise. I'll try it. Another question, when reinstall the game, the CD key is stay the same as before, right? I mean once I bought the game, the cd key attached to my steam account is static?

Yes. You can see Your CD Key by selecting this option in steam on the right side of your game library windows after selecting the game.
The key is the same and You can use it every time You install Aoe3. (I even think it works with non-steam versions).
If You play online, Your CD-Key will be tied to Your AoE3 Online-Account.

If it's asking for the CD key every time, it means that the CD key value is not getting written in your registry. Most likely this is because you either didn't install it properly through steam, are denying steam admin access to the machine to complete the installation, or have just copied files.
If you make sure to run steam as admin and install the game through there (and let the game run as admin) it should only ask on first launch.

I followed Lexx's advise and reinstall the game. It works fine now :D.
BTW, there's other problems are posted in the forum so I guess we should have a patch through STEAM soon.

question: i'm still downloading this game as of the moment, meaning I haven't used the cd key yet to activate the game. Would it be possible to give away the key to someone else, steam or non-steam?

Hard to say. Usually the key is generated by steam and is usable only for that but I guess this time it's a 1on1 port of the complete collection DVD, which had only one key for all games.
I guess this might work but You won't be able to play online once the other user activates the key on ESO (online aoe3).
Also it might get you in trouble sharing keys (you usually also can't play together on lan games with the same key.)
