Age of Empires® III (2007)

AOE III Steam copy wont launch on window 7 64bit?
I just downloaded AOE III Complete from Steam because of the sale, installed it and entered the cd key but it wont launch past the initial title screen that appears in the middle of my desktop? It stops responding at this screen. I feel pretty cheated out of my money, has anyone else had the same problems or have any solutions?

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah, I tried running in compatiblity mode as suggested in that topic but it doesn't seem to work. I don't know what to do. Pretty disappointing.

I found a solution. It appears that even if you press apply after changing the compatibility mode to windows vista service pack 2, it doesn't save it permanently. I had to press 'change settings for all users' for it to save permanently. I changed settings for all users to vista service pack 2 for all the launcher applications, including the expansions. Everything seems to be working so far now.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I've had no problems with this game so far.
Update: this was a temporary fix. It still keeps not launching a good proportion of the time and neither of the expansions work. Only the original launches, some of the time.

I just bought it cause it was on sale as well and it will not launch for me either. It tells me the key code is wrong each time. :/ So not impressed! Total waste of money.
Just purchased for Windows 7 64 Bit. I can run Warchiefs and Asian Dynasties separately, but when I hit "play game" I get an error message, "Failed to Initialize COM"

I have windows 7 64bit and it works fine, something else is causing your problems. I didn't do anything with the game. Just downloaded, installed and I can play it smoothly. No vista/xp modes, everything on default. The only problems were that I had to create account in the core game to play multiplayer (not in WarChiefs or Asian dynasties), as well as forwarding ports. That's all. Don't spread confusion.
Same here but it works fine iff i go to the .exe files in the game folder and start it manually and not from steam

dumb question where is the cd key

nvm
Try running the launcher as administrator too, all else failed for me until I did that though the game is still brutal on the windows 7 theme (seriously microsoft? it's your game and your OS and you still have to have problems like this??) (sorry hadda get that out of my system)
I already have all three games set to 'run as administrator' permanently. The only thing that works for me is to run them seperately, outside of Steam. Which sucks. And to make sure they dont freeze, I have to change the compatiblity mode each time I play. I switch between windows 7 and windows vista service pack 2. I don't get why this is a fix but it's the only thing that's working. The only way it definitely wont crash is to change the compatibility mode, right before you play. Idk about everyone else but this is what's working with me. :)
