1) Browse to Documents\My Games\Age of Empires III\AI3\. Create a temporary folder on your desktop, and then move all of the contents of AI3 to your temporary folder. Make sure you name the temp folder with "documents" or something, because you'll have another temporary folder later.

2) Browse to your game's installation folder* (NOT the folder you were just in -- see the note at the bottom), and then go to AI3 in that one. Copy (not move, unlike last time) all of the .PERSONALITY files. There should be 14. The easiest way to find them is to sort by type. Paste them into a second temporary folder, this time I'd recommend naming it "installation" or something like that.

3) Open a personality file in AI3 (any of them, but just one) with Notepad. Change the contents of the forcedciv line to SPCAct3 (replacing the name of a civilization). Save.

4) Go back to the installation folder, and then go to the data subfolder. Download this file, civs.xml, and put it there.

5) This is the hardest step. Hit [Ctrl] + [F]. Type >Spanish< in the Search box. In the line it finds, replace Spanish with SPCAct3. Then, search for >SPCAct3<. First it will probably find the line you just edited -- go to the next one if it does (noticed the one you just edited was about the 9th line in the file, the right one is the 767th line in the file). Once you've found the correct one, replace SPCAct3 with Spanish. Save.

6) Go on ESO and create a homecity with the Spanish -- this will be your American HC.

7) Exit ESO. Go back to your installation folder, and delete the civs.xml that you put in earlier. Copy the 14 files in the temporary folder for the installation folder back to [installationfolder]\AI3 (this fixes the one you edited). Finally, move the temporary documents files back to where you moved them from in Step 1.

8) Go on ESO and host a game with the Americans! Hint: they suck.

There are other campaign civilizations that you could try -- just replace SPCAct3 throughout the tutorial with something from this list:

Pirate, TheCircle, SPCAct2, SPCAct1, NativeAmerican, XPSPC.

I don't know if they will all work, I only tried Americans (SPCAct3).
