Stay away from this awful piece of crap!

I have spend 1 hour installing and trying to run this piece of crap game and it keeps flinging microsoft live errors at me..and then it asks for a cd key, and i have to find that in a diffent application...where AoEO is not listed! I give up!

Yeah, my friend have problems too, he download by steam this game, i told him to open the games for windows live and go to download tab, but he click in download tab and it dont show age of empires online and my friend cannot get the key.

Then, we downloaded age of mythology and we are playing it multiplayer via gameranger, more easy and fun than the bugsoft.

Honestly, I think that the valve could buy the game and distribute it in the steam as a valve game having steamplay instead of trash gfwl.

I had the same problem but managed to solve.
Go on the website of XBOX Live and adds AGE OF EMPIRES ONLINE XBOX in your account on the internet. Once you have done this, see if the key appears.
My problem was giving because of the site, but I think I fixed it.

You don't need to download it again. However, adding it to your account by "buying it" (for free) through the Xbox website should allow you to see the code. Installing the game again, while you have it installed through Steam, can acutally cause conflicts.

This is a great game once you play it and get a premium civ (which is either 10 bucks or spend about a month and a half playing the game as a free-only player--or you could get multiple premium civs with one of the Steam bundles).

It really isn't that bad to get installed if you just find the Product Key fix. I definitely agree that it is ridiculous that you have to jump through the hoops of creating a LIVE account and such, but it is not that hard to figure it out.

I get the "instance already running" error when I start the game in Games for Windows Marketplace, if I start in Steam then I get the "Can't load profile" error in Windows Live.
Frustrating!

The "An instance of the game is already running" error occurs as a result of the game failing to launch due to improper system permissions. Please follow these steps if you encounter this error message:
1. Launch the game as an administrator from your computer. If this doesn’t work follow steps 2-4:
2. Uninstall just the Games for Windows - LIVE client through the computer control panel.
3. Reinstall just the Games for Windows - LIVE client from this link: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient
4. Reinstall Age of Empires Online from within the Games for Windows - LIVE client.
5. Navigate to the directory where you installed the game and run the launcher.exe file as an administrator.

Please let me know if this solved the issue.
