since gfwl is shutting down, they are also shutting down. they stated that they do not have the staff to write the code to change it over to steamworks...pretty lame

The game ended development and there is no devs to remove GFWL.

Yeah it's stupid. It's the only modern AoE, it has it's problems but it's still better than AoE 2 HD -_-

Does anyone think that the MS staff could make it so that if we have the game files we could run it over Voobly? Just like remove the "persistent" cloud-based timed stuff? After shut down and broke my heart years ago, many of us continued to play AoE II/AoK for years using Voobly, as well as AoM. And ESO (AoE III online) is still alive and well, more or less. It'd be golden if microsoft would revive AoE III because that is a fantastic game, and just needs more population to its lobbies. And now that they re-released AoE II as AoE II: HD Edition with "The Forgotten" expansion over steam, that game is living once again, using peer-to-peer via steam. But AoEO was something I had been gung-ho for since its announcement back in, was it late 2009? It's a shame to see this game die after the over 150$ I put into it, and I really do enjoy the civilization aside from the Celts. I couldn't be happier with the Greeks, Persians, Babylonians, Egyptians, and Norse--as somebody said on one of the earlier forum posts over at agecommunity, "MS had better be offering counseling for withdrawal symptoms"

Oh, MS has the staff, they just don't give a toss..

Pirates. Everytime I spend money on anything of theirs, they take it and run.

In order to implement any changes to the game, we would need a development team, which we do not have. More information can be found in our blog on the end of development from last year:
