Install Games for Windows off of microsoft's site. This is what I had to do. To change settings like resolution, run the configuration applet in administrator mode and then start the game.

Thanks, seems i missed some of the files i needed to increase admin rights on, also lowered the uac to lowest setting, probably not a great idea but at least now it works.

I had the same problem. Uninstalling all Games For Windows Live Client installations, downloaded current release Games for Windows Live 3.5 and installed. Had to login at Games for Windows Live using Internet Explorer first, because the Terms of Use had changed. Then it worked fine for me.

This is what I did to get Fable III to work with Windows 8.

1. uninstall all previous versions of Games For Windows Live there might be two. (uninstall apps through Control Panel)
2. download and install Microsoft Flight thru the Steam Store.
3. after install, go to directory on harddrive where Microsoft Flight is installed. Mine was Steam/Steamapps/Common/Microsoft Flight/Setup/GFWLive (then run the install for Games For Windows Live) gfwlivesetup.exe
4. after install of GFWL don't sign in, just close window.
5. Go back into Steam, and start (play) Microsoft Flight.
6. When Microsoft Flight starts up, it will have you setup GFWL. It will go through a setup process.
7. After you get to the main screen on Microsoft Flight (Title Screen) click on "LIVE"
8. Log into GFWL, after Logging in you should see the GFWL at top section of screen showing you are logged in.
9. Shutdown/Close Microsoft Flight with ALT F4.
10. Go to your Fable 3 location in Steams Library. Then click on PLAY!
11. It will log you into GFWL to setup Fable 3 with product key and you should be Good To Go!

Thank you so much! This did the trick. I failed the bullet 8 since games for win /live activation for fligth was asking for product code and I had none. But continuing to steps 9 did the trick.

See when ppl use the word "Awesome" in order to describe something you know they have no idea and it is best we let them live in their bubble.
