So, what's the general strategy for vehicles on Hard?
It seems like I noticed different behavior for the dinos on Hard, which seemed to change things up. Namely, dinos continue attacking a vehicle even after you get out of it. Before, if you got swarmed and a vehicle was about to break down, you could just hop out, kill the dinos, and heal it back to health-- now it seems the dinos will just continue pounding it until it explodes.

How do you keep vehicles alive and make the best use of them? It seems particularly hard to do anything once a big dino has you targeted; it seems like a trike spells the doom of any vehicle it decides to go after. But other big dinos, too, pose a problem-- even on Normal, t-rex boulders were always a huge threat. And, you know, even stegos just want to keep trampling you... and trampling you... and trampling you... once a big dino wants a vehicle dead, passenger or no passenger, no amount of Utility Gun beams are gonna offset the damage. I haven't seen them lose interest before the vehicle's gone kablooey.

So clearly, I'm going about this the wrong way-- there must be a better strategy for vehicles. Should big dinos be avoided all together, or at least until their health is low enough that you can kill them from a distance before they catch up to you (like with a couple tank shots)? Should vehicles be parked near the base, out of the combat zone, and only be used mid-wave after swarms of adds have amassed (so that you can quickly thin out the adds, and then ditch the vehicle)? Can EMP grenades be used to give an instant heal for a last-ditch vehicle save, or do they gradually heal for the duration of the stun? What kind of strategy do you and your teammates use?

Much ♥ for any replies. Hard mode has left me clueless.

I'm trying to avoid 100% touching the big dinos, stay away, vehicule bashing is not a weapon on hard big dinos lol

You could try to drive a jeep (with machine gun) onto a small mountain (it will probably get stuck in the rocks after your litte jump) and fire from there, or having a friend firing while you turn around the big dino.

For tanks, well if you aim well from a distance, you can kill a big dino pretty quickly, if he spot you, move now, don't even try to still shoot him when he's coming for you just disapear and find another spot. That's pretty much it, vehicules are for getting away (and for some, doing damage) or traveling/small dinos crushing (when no weapons).

Drive around in a Penguin running over raptors, spitters, and compys.

If you're in a humvee, get some distance between you and a big dino, then press 3 to switch to the gun and start shooting. As it runs up to you press 1 to switch back to the driver seat and drive away.

no good advice, you lose 75% cash when you run them over with a car

What do you need cash for? You have a car. I start with a Cryo Knife so all I need is 2500 to get the melee damage increase and then I can 1-shot raptors on hard.

Also, this thread is specifically about using vehicles.

For me, the best think to do, is 2 players in the Buggy : one drive, the second shoot.
And if/when Buggy takes too much damages, use the Turbo to find a place secured to repair, and then, go back to fight.
A 3rd person on the roof of the Buggy is good too, he can shoot at 360° and if he is Support, he can kills Rham with the Medic-gun and repair without having to stop.

Buggy + team work rule the world !

My personal preference is to use the vehicles to take down the larger dinos (Sally especially) or steer them away from the generator. So it can be repaired without hinderance. The real trick is to not kill any of the smaller ones by running them over.. Thus in this way you gain the most money at least until everyone gets geared up then mow them the **** down.

As for the guy on the hood of the vehicle I do it a lot but only when there is a guy on turret and one driving that way we both do damage on the big guys and try to stay out of harms way. You best hope the driver is aware of where all the Big guys are at all times to.. Nothing like being suprised over a ridge by running headlong into a Triceratops. BOOM! Player Down! Player Down! Player Down!

I usually try to roll as Support and jump in a buggy and do my best to keep the buggy repaired. Can be difficult BIG TIME on Hard, but if ya got good teammates it'll go smoothly.

If you have any large vehicles (Tanks, mech, etc) GET OUT if any kind of big dino is close.
Just a couple of seconds, a strong vehicle can be crushed by a big dino, so only use it to shot a couple of times on them, then put it in a safe position where it wont get inbetwhen you and a big dino.

I find the mech pretty useful against Stegos/Trikes, but not so good against the large carnivores. I can out circle-strafe the big vegetarians.

I'm highly disappointed in the tank. I think it's rather a poor design that a T-Rex has about 10x the health of a tank... the tank is too slow to avoid a charging dino and has very low health (even on Easy two trike headbutts will destroy it - and they usually happen in the same charge because by the time you land from the first flip, the trike is right there to hit you again before you can even bail out or try to move). As for it's damage output, I can drop a dino faster with an adrenaline weapon (and WHY is the bow listed as an adrenaline weapon when it takes up a primary weapon slot instead? When I get Duke + Junkie, I can carry 2 primaries + 2 adrenaline, but the bow takes a primary instead so I can carry 1 primary + bow + 2 adrenaline) especially the rocket launcher or minigun.

The APC is almost as bad but it's at least a little tougher than the tank (still far short of even trike health level).

I find the VTOL to be the best vehicle for solo players since it can be used to rain destruction upon the large dinosaurs then drop you onto an area to deal with the now non-respawning fliers and snipe at the ground based ones.

For co-op play a buggy is excellent for cutting down hordes/large dinos as long as your driver is attentive and somewhat competent.

Great tips right here!
Thought, NEVER buy a APC in conquest. Its not worth the price at all.

I bought one just for the Achievement... heh.

Besides I usually end Conquest with 500+K and all the augments and a full load of weapons.

And that's buying disposable Dragonflies and teleporting back after claiming an outpost.

The general strategy with vehicles is not to use them.
Except for the tank and the walker. Get a couple of people who know how to use them and not get screwed by big dinos, and they can prove very useful.
Helicopters can be moderately good for bombing, but you need a sniper on the ground to protect them from pterodactyls and repair them.
T-Bone Biggins Mar 8 @ 6:11pm
The game just has a pooched model with vehicles in survival mode. Tanks are basically insto-killed by any charging dinosaur, first hit it flies, lands, then blows up from 2nd hit exact moment you land. Mech is about the same. VTOL gets ♥♥♥♥♥ by birds in later waves and has an extremely slow extremely inaccurate minigun to deal with them, seriously, all the miniguns in this game are TOO INACCURATE to be right. But the VTOL takes the cake, literally the bullets spread wider than the vehicle itself at close to mid-range.

The best thing to do is avoid vehicles in general, even if there is a dedicated guy with a utility gun repairing you constantly the large dinos can just insto-pop the 'better' vehicles with impunity on medium, let alone hard. The jeep with minigun is about the best vehicle in the game because it can outrun a dino and shoot constantly, the main weakness is it requires 2 players who know what they are doing and most do not sadly.
