KoA: TR is a classic action / RPG in the style of Dungeon Seige III. As such, its appeal is mostly for fans of the console based RPG who enjoy the simplistic interface and sophisticated button mashing combat. I come strictly from the PC world so I tend to prefer things like Skyrim, Baldur's Gate, and the like. However this game managed to keep my attention because of its "charm" and great combat.
I assume that you are familiar with the basics of an ARPG title, so I'll skip right to the pros:
> The world is absolutely huge. I have 40 hours logged so far and have completed about half the game in terms of exploring the map.
> The number of quests and side quests is equally enormous. Given this, the means for managing them all works quite well... any quest can be designated "primary" and tracked easily through the kingdom. Secondary quests appear only on the detailed map which shows the immediate area.
> The voice acting is excellent, and ALL NPC dialog is spoken. I recognized one of the voice actors from Skyrim! I wouldn't be surprised if there are others from the school of Bethesda.
> The combat, which is the meat and potatoes of the game really, is fantastic. This is the primary reason to play this game. The controls are easy to learn (I recommend an XBOX controller) and the unlocks as you progress are interesting and powerful.
> Although there are basic classes (ranged/mage/tank) the level of customization available allows you to combine classes in interesting ways or focus on a specific branch within the class.
> Crafting is available (create gems/blacksmithing/alchemy)... and exploring any one of those paths yeilds GREAT rewards mid-late game.
> The pacing is excellent, and largely under your control.
> AWESOME support for 3D Vision... you will want to patch the game using helixmods. Google it.
> Great weapon effects, such as flame, electricity, ice etc.
> The story is interesting.
> The camera is generally well managed by the game, particularly in combat.
> It is possible to completely "respec" your character at any time!
And the CONS:
> Graphically the game reminds me of world of warcraft... rather cartoonish. Not necessarily a deal killer but I prefer a more realistic look.
> The character animations are limited, in particular when speaking dialog. You will see the same animations repeated hundreds of times, to the point where you begin to notice them... a bit distracting.
> Occasionally there are some wild camera glitches.
> The difficulty can be uneven, especially early in the game. You will be sailing along beating up baddies with abandon and then be unable to complete a boss fight without reducing the difficulty. That seems to be less of a problem by mid-game if you have been managing your build well.
> The loot drops are generally not that interesting... mostly junk, at least by mid-game... although by that time you have a specific build in mind and you are looking for specific loot. I find that merchants are a better source of loot than drops.
Overall I heartily recommend this game
9/10 (if you have 3d Vision, 10/10)
