KQ6 - how to get Windows version instead of DOS version
I still remember KQ6 like I saw and heard it the first time, over 20 years ago. The voice acting and sound was, at the time, the best around. So it immediately struck me when I opened up KQ6 here and the opening movie was far off from what I remembered, and the voice dialog boxes look very different. I assume this is because the game is running from DOSBox and thus using the DOS version of KQ6 instead of the Windows version that you could play on CD-Rom when it released. Is there any way to adjust that?

I don't have it installed at the moment but I remember there being two different executables in the game folder to start the Windows version. If I recall correctly they were called KQ6.exe and KQ6WIN.exe or similar for the DOS and Windows version respectively. The Windows version should have the more detailed dialogue portraits. I don't recall the intro movie being any different.

I'll check for the different executable, thanks! FYI - the differences to the intro movie are slight. Mostly, the narrator speaks for the transition parts "For 3 long months Prince Alexander sails the known seas and beyond" instead of a text box saying it. Also, the closing animation for the KQ6 logo is different (I still remember it giving me chills as a 10 year old)

Can anyone who has the game installed confirm Amorous's post? I can't find an executable in the game files as described above.

I just reinstalled it to check how it was done. The 'trick' here is to download and install SCUMMVM[www.scummvm.org] and click "Add Game", point it to the kq6 folder, then you can select the Windows version. Tested it out and it runs with detailed portraits (and a few other benefits like text + speech option).

This is one of my favorite games of all time and everyone should be able to enjoy it in the version they prefer. Have fun! :)
