There's also sculptris which is similar to zbrush however it uses triangles rather then polygons, it's free.
If the delevoper had push the program it could have been a great program and may have gotten to the stage of being the indies tool of choice.
The delevopers dropped it. It has not been updated for years its been left behind by well almost everything. Go else where people.
Also Blender is pretty much a full suit, so you can model with it, render, and use its composite editor to make your movie. This is a much cleaner workflow than Maya where you model, render and then import the frames into an editor like Adobe Premier, After Effects or Avid.
It is a bit of a departure though if you cut your graphics teeth on Maya and 3DS Max like I did, but if you want to run legit it's not gonna cost you 3k USD+ either, as it's free to download and use.
