@Peek Mechanics why not just google your questions?
http://www.alteredgamer.com/pc-gaming-tech/1709-how-do-i-uninstall-nprotect-game-guard/
*There are GameGuard files in the system32 folder and registry entries.
*Probably not
*Deletes some files of it but not all.
So, what I want to know is the following:
Since the game didn't start, GameGuard or nPROTECT wasn't started up, the games process were interupted by AVG and thus GameGuard haven't started once. I ran a virus scan at the folder which I had installed the game in and resulted in a negative.
My questions:
* Is GameGuard/nPROTECT installed/stored anywhere else on my computer?
* Will these files be dangerous at all since they have not activated or have anything to be activated with?
* Does uninstalling the game from Steam and removing the folder leftovers from the directory do anything at all?
* Have anyone else had any other problems?
Any answers are appreciated!
So I'm going to keep this short and simple:
1. I downloaded the game to my seperate harddrive (D:).
2. I patched the game. (All the necessary files were downloaded and the game was ready to start)
3. When I pressed play the process stopped answering due to my AVG popping up saying "splash.exe" was a Generic Trojan Dropper.
4. Opened up Task Manager and closed the process.
5. AVG protected me from this Trojan Dropper
Okay, so thats the information you need to answer my question.
So the game uses a anti cheat client, called "nPROTECT" this isnt like any other anti cheat client, but ITS NOT A VIRUS. very important to know,
but why is it bad? well the reason is because it has access to all of your files.
With this, if your computer gets a virus from anything. And i mean ANYTHING. and if this virus finds this program. This virus will have access that this nPROTECT
Now this virus has access to every file to your computer.
Think of nProtect as smuggling tunnels. Once you add some criminals to these tunnels, you got a huge crime problem.
Shitty analogy, but still you get what I mean. I may be very wrong, but I didnt want to get into "tech savy" terms to make it easier to understand.
Pls tell me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for the heads up about GameGuard - I was about to install this.
Just to try and clear some of the confusion up: GameGuard is a piece of software developed by the company INCA Internet (sometimes called nProtect).
GameGuard is a process that runs 'invisibly' on your PC and ensures that you don't use cheat programs.
I have two problems with GameGuard
1) It runs as a kernel process which means the developers must make it completely secure - it's not a virus itself but if a virus takes it over then that virus can do anything to your system because there are no restrictions on what GameGuard can do.
2) Arbitrarilly defining programs as 'cheat' programs is open to abuse. Sure if you've started Cheat Cheat engine then you probaby intend to cheat but what about something like Comdo Defense? It still needs access to other processes memory but isn't for cheating. What if there's a pay-for voice client built into the game? Then things like Skype and Googe Hangouts can be defined as cheat programs and closed to make sure your don't bypass their proprietry voice client.
So it's not malware and won't be taken of Steam for that reason but it is a very aggresive DRM scheme.
so i dont know what happening to you guys
