Darksiders is a truly epic and immersive experience. A dark and twisted take on the Biblical Apocalypse, that features an awesome storyline, wrapped into a visually modern hack-and-slash style game, but with many time-tested gameplay mechanics still in place.
The game will take newcomers at least 12 hours to beat, and along the way it delivers a very well distributed amount of great storytelling, hardhitting combat (which has finishing moves that you simply can't get enough of), and challenging puzzles. At no point does one thing or the other become boring, and this might be Darksiders' biggest strength.
It might have been developed for consoles and then ported to PC some time later, but don't let that fool you. The controls are still good, and it doesn't take much time to get used to playing with a keyboard and a mouse. All keys are rebindable.
The game might crash on occasion, so remember to save often. But this is a minor concern, and Darksiders is definitely a game to keep a lookout for during the Steam Sales.
