Men of War Assault Squad is the best WW2 real-time tactics game! I've been following this game series ever since the original 'Soldiers Heroes of WW2'. When I tried the demo back then, and realized that you can take the shells out of your broken tank to load a stolen anti-tank gun, and you can scavenge the fallen bodies for weapons and ammunition, and you can take cover behind virtually everything, and you can drive tanks through buldings, I was immediately sold.

This amazing level of detail and authenticity is still present today, and it brings an immense level of control and different tactics that you can use. That comes at the expense of very much micromanagement and almost every key on the keyboard being assigned to some action. That makes it hard for newcomers to pick up, but once you memorized everything, you're going to have a blast.

The multiplayer component is a bit shaky, because it uses an old GameSpy service. That's why I have very high hopes for the upcoming Assault Squad 2, which promises to have full Steam MP integration. The developers have been listening to the community a lot and have published several free updates with lots of new content, so I trust them on this one.

Too bad AS2 went full garbage. Most awful game ever that is rather a scam.
Multiplayer works also fine and 100% better than AS2, thought you would have an idea what you´re talking about...

Ofc, gamespy died but lan still works and there is Tunngle which has an active community so you´ll always find a match (100-200+ ppl online)

AS2 also has horrifying bugs so far and runs 200% worse while they still dont fix desync errors (yay no additional maps in frontline mode + desync bug!)

The content they published is also awful, just copy-pasted boring stuff..

Hi MajinKai, unfortunately don't have much time to play at the moment. But yesterday I tried the new release version of AS2 (past early access) and now the game runs much smoother also in multiplayer. Just as one would expect, so I regained my faith in the devs.

Just to further illustrate my point: http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791434422218/announcements/detail/1856913217455696346

Instinct even admits they're running a 32-bit non-directX 10 engine. I haven't seen a brand new non-directX 11 game in about 4 years. Help us banned disatisfied customers and change your review; it's the only way we can spread the word and inform others before they buy into the AS2 lie.

ditte79, there are guys with dual 790GTX in SLI and top of the line systems who can not play the game either. AS2 has a fundementally flawed design and there are no decernable differences in teh engine between AS1 and AS2 besides the pathing display and the Steam multiplayer. I would highly recommend that you don't base buying a whole new system solely on AS2 performance. I can attest that my system is very modern and the game is still unplayable for me.

Hi MajinKai, I already switched to AS2, in the hopes of it getting better. Unfortunately, at the moment AS2 is not playable for me, have to get a more beefy machine first.

Please consider changing your review now that Digital Mind Soft has decided to screw all of their AS1 players and stop supporting the game. They want to force everyone to buy their new game instead of keeping their promise to "provided patches and new content" as was advertised on the store page before they conveiniently changed it. Even CoH provided a free update to allow Steam multiplayer to mitigate GS going away, DMS has no excuse other than lazy piss poor planning.
